Thursday Eve. May 3, 1877 The Conneticut Courant, Hartford. Obituary William G.Brownlow William G. Brownlow, better known, perhaps as "Parson Brownlow, died Sunday. He was born in Wythe County, Virginia, in 1805, and when still a boy was taught the trade of a carpenter. When twenty-one years of age he began work as a minister, and continued in that branch of duty exclusively until 1828, when he entered Tennessee politics as an advocate of the re-election of John Quincy Adams, IN of near the year 1837 he settled in Knoxville, Tenn., and began the publication of the "Whig" in the columns of which he gave such expression to his views that he soon became known as the "fighting parson." He held the view that slavery ought to be perpetuated, but opposed seccession so bitterly that he was arrested by the confederacy for treason, and finally put inside the Union lines where he made the most of his time by delivering speeches. IN 1865, having returned to his old home he was elected to the governorship of Tennessee, and four years later he was sent to the United State! s senate. "Parson Brownlaw was a man in a thousand, an iron will, a terse, sharp expression of strong views, and a way of mixing politics with religion, were among his leading characteristics.

He was born in 1834 in lincolnshire England. Joseph's kids were William, (Bill Brownlows grandfather), Charlie he never had any kids, Frank he had a couple of kids I will ask my dad, Richard,my great grandfather. Richard's kids were Bernard, pearl and a girl that died when she was 12 i think her name was lottie. I would have to go out to the cematery to get all the names right. Which I can do if you want me to. I don't think Joseph and Eliza(his wife) had any girls but you might know more than I. I know my father and brother or my boys would like to be in your study. Just let us know what is to be done. Thank you so very much and if you want dates of births and deaths and all that I can get them for you. Thanks again this is really fun!! Kay

Can you remind me of how your line connects with Bill's line? I don't think I ever received that information. As long as we have a direct male descendent, this can be done. Let me know how you all connect with Bill's line and we can take it from there. I look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, Bette
