According to "Beers Commemorative Biographical Record of Lambton County, Ontario, Canada" David Brownlee was a native of Wooshie, Scotland. EMIGRATION: Hamilton Emigration Society, David Brownlee came with mother to Canada. Ship Commerce sailed from Greenock Scotland, a sea port on the River Clyde to the west of Glasgow, under Captain Cloverdale, May 11, 1821, arrived Quebec June 20 1821. 422 passengers representing 9 emigration societies. Three deaths, no births on voyage. The groups left for Glasgow on there own. From Glasgow to Greenock the Clyde Shipping Company carried them for a fee. The cost to cross the Atlantic was 3 pounds. The emigrants were taken by steam ship from Quebec to Montreal, and from there to Lacine. From there the families proceeded to Prescott in a flotilla of flat-bottomed boats, each could carry about three families with their luggage. After a week they arrived at Prescott. There they camped for two weeks or so, waiting until the passengers from all the ships were assembled. Then came a five day trip by wagon; 74 miles over poor trails to Lanark.
