Hi Bridget. Thank you for the Brownlee information. I think I have some information on John Brownlee and wife, Eliza Rush, but hadn't been able to connect them to the John Brownlee in Brooke Co. VA. I'm still hazy on John, the Rev. soldier who died in Brooke Co. VA. In Dale Armstrong's latest publication he shows him as the brother of my ancestor, James Brownlee. I know James had a brother, John, and I'm pretty sure they both moved from Lancaster Co. to Washington Co. and served in the Rev. from there. I think Dale is probably right about James and the Brooke Co. John being brothers, but some of his dates don't work. John's (Brooke Co.) pension application clearly gives his age as 72 in 1820 which would place his birth at ca. 1748. Since he and two sisters were baptized at the same time in 1751 in Lancaster Co. PA by Rev. Cuthbertson, I would guess that they were all born after the family left Scotland. The father John, according to Lanarkshire Parish Records, was born in 1699 at Torfoot. John (b. 1699) was Archibald's brother. The confusion started when several of the bios in the Washington Co. History listed my James as a brother to Archibald, even though there was nearly 40 years difference in their ages. He was actually a nephew. Only the bio of Ner O. Brownlee got it right. It states that "...cousins, James and John Brownlee, each took up 600 acres." I'll be happy to send you what I have on my line, Bridget. I hope that together we can sort this all out. Betty
