Hi Bridget: My original Torfoot ancestor to Washington was Archibald Brownlee and his wife Margaret Hamilton. They arrived to Lancaster Cty (which included Washington Cty at the time) in 1752. Several of Archibald's cousins and siblings traveled to the area at other times. There are several Brownlee and Hamilton grave sites in church yards and in private lots in the county. I would be willing to trade information to help illuminate any questions you may have on the Brownlee's in Washington Co. In fact, since you live there, you may know much more than I know. Do you keep your records in an electronic format using a commercial software package (i.e. Family Tree Maker or other)? Did you know there is an original Brownlee farmhouse and land on the Nat'l Register for Historic places right there in Washington Co? It is quite fantastic and in wonderful condition. I have lived in Pittsburgh for twenty years with my family but am now living in Manhattan, NY. Mark Mark, Which of the Washington County Brownlee's? My grandfather was Ernest Calvin Brownlee, his family settled in Washington from W.Va, but from my research it seems the "Claysville Brownlees" and his family were descended from the same Brownlee's of Torfoot. One brother stayed in Washington and the other settled in VA/W.VA after revolution. Incidentally, I am in Canonsburg are you located in Washington County?
