The following marriage report appeared in the Washington [D.C.] Post on 15OCT1997: Lee Ann Necessary Weds John Leslie Brownlee The marriage of Lee Ann Necessary and John Leslie Brownlee took place on Saturday, August 30, 1997 in a candle-light ceremony at the First Baptist Church, in the bride's hometown of North Wilkesboro, NC. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Ann Rita Necessary of Millers Creek, NC and the late C. H. Necessary Jr. She graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1989 and currently anchors the 5, 6 and 11 p.m. news on WSLS-TV in Roanoke, VA. The groom is the son of Nancy Brownlee of Fairfax, VA and Les Brownlee of Alexandria, VA. He is a 1987 graduate of Washington and Lee University and received his law degree from the College of William and Mary School of Law. He served in the U. S. Army, graduating from the military's Airborne and Ranger schools and clerked for U. S. District Judge Samuel G. Wilson. Mr. Brownlee is currently an assistant U. S. attorney for the District of Columbia. The new Mrs. Brownlee was attended by her sister, Adrienne Necessary of Durham, NC, as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Tracy Brownlee Carney of Falls Church, VA, Nancy Snipes of North Wilkesboro, NC and Leisa Hawley of Atlanta, GA. Mr. Brownlee's father, Les Brownlee, was his best man. I found this interesting little tidbit recently on the web. Brownlee House -- c. 1848. Robert Brownlee built this Federal style brick house in the late 1840s for his brother and sister-in-law. A Scottish stonemason, Brownlee came to Little Rock in 1837 to help build the Old State House. He pursued a number of careers before leaving for California in the 1849 gold rush. From the late 1840s through 1852, the home's residents were James and Isabelle Brownlee and Tabby, a slave. Brownlee had the wooden mantels in the parlor and bedroom marblized, a popular decorative art of the time. The home's furnishings reflect the mid-19th century. Some belonged to lawyer and writer C.F.M. Noland, who may have lived in the house in the 1850s.

Hi Everyone, I went to my first Scottish games yesterday in Tulsa, Ok,. 9-21-97. This was a two days event. It was very interesting. I suggest that if you haven't been, GO. Fot those of you that haven't here are some of the things that were there. There were about 50+ booths of different Surnames, Coat of arms booths, alot of scottish material, eg; books, clothes, jewerly boxes, litature, etc. and all kind of different food. There were different types of Highland Dancing and 4 different athletic events. I did some checking on the BROWNLEE Clan. The BROWNLEE Clan wears two differents colors of tartans. One is the District Tartan Stratscldye. The other is under/sept of the Family DOUGLAS. Depending on where the BROWNLEE fits in, is what Tartan they where. Both Tartans are pretty nice. Does anyone know of a BROWNLEE clan that has been started, that goes the the Scottish games? If not I was looking at checking into it and see what it takes. I am also, trying to get a replica of the Torfot Castle or Stratshaven Castle. I noticed on an earliey posting, Betty had sent out information on HAMILTONS and it included the DOUGLAS surname. Any information on the DOUGLAS surname would be appreciated. The Hamiltons are pretty big aslo. I did not see the BROWNLEE under the HAMILTONs. There is a lot of History around the DOUGLAS's and HAMILTON's. At one point in history they were bitter enemies. But, they still married. Any comments please email. Your Cousin, Ted
