Subscribe Hi all I`m trying to trace my family tree and have been advised of this site by Betty Rudolph of Boise, ID My name is Philip Brownlee and I live in Bridgwater Somerset UK. My father and Grandfather were born in Letterbreen, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland in 1919 and 1877 (approx) respectively. My father is sure that his ancestors relocated to N.I. from Scotland in the 1600`s. I would be grateful if anyone could exchange information they think may be relevant. Thanks everyone Kindest Regards Phil -- Phil Brownlee
The Commercial Appeal of Memphis, TN on Dec 3, 1997 carries an obit for Loventrice BROWNLEE, 68, who died 2 Dec 1997 at Columbus, MS. She was the widow of John Thomas Brownlee, Jr. Survivinf are daughter Pamela Brownlee of Columbus and sons Edward T. Brownlee of Port Gibson and Larry Joe Brownlee of Columbus. I am Interested in Brownlees in Scotland.
I got your transcript of the will today by so-called snail. It think its faster than e-mail by aol! I'm interested in the newsletter. Can't believe I haven't seen this before. Do you know if they ever had anything on the Templeton family in it? My James Brownlee married Shelby Co., IL 26 Jan 1851 Mary Templeton, the daughter of Robert Alexander Templeton. I have a copy of his will and know quite about this Robert Templeton except who his siblings and ancestors are. He was originally from Iredell, NC, lived in White Co., TN before coming to Shelby Co., IL. I've found a lot of Templeton info in Iredell but nothing to tie my Robert into those families. There is probably nothing in the newsletters but I grab straws at this point. Thanks for the will. Pat

My earliest known BROWNLEE ancestor I would like to learn more about is the following: Elizabeth BROWNLEE b when? b where? d when? d probably Williamson Co TN parents? siblings? m 6 Dec 1759 in Holy Trinity (Old Swedes) Church, Wilmington DE spouse: Ezekiel CURREY, s/o Samuel CURREY & Jane ____ Elizabeth BROWNLEE & Ezekiel CURREY lived in New London Township, Chester Co PA, after their marriage. About 1764 they moved to North Carolina in area that was Orange Co which later fell into the county of Randolph in 1778. In May 1781, they settled in the Haw River community on the upper Haw River in what is now Rockingham Co NC. They appear in 1790 census of Rockingham Co NC and it is believed they moved to Tennessee about 1791. This was in Williamson Co TN. I don't have a clue as to names of parents of Elizabeth. There are no unusual names given to their children -- all common names of Samuel, Ezekiel B., Margaret, Elizabeth, Sarah, Nancy, John, Susan, Robert Brownlee, Mary, Isaac, and Martha. Who in Pennsylvania might have a missing BROWNLEE daughter? Imogene Bennett Springfield, MO [email protected]

In a message dated 97-12-02 12:42:46 EST, you write: << I don't seem to have received the first message from Pat ([email protected]) regarding Ann McClain, wife of Thomas Brownlee, but it may yet come. I seem to get some messages very late out here in the western boonies. Here is what I have on Ann McClain which comes from Dale Armstrong and Donavan Dorsey, who took it from a History of Shelby and Moultrie Co. IL. I have for Ann's birth, 1788 in Washington Co. PA, marriage in 1809, and death ca. 1851. Dale got dates from me years ago and there were a lot of errors in the History of Shelby and Moultrie Co., IL. This birthdate wouldn't check out with the 1850 Census. Wonder if the census taker made an error and age should have been 63? That would make the other dates more logical. That does make it more logical though. I'm going to work with those dates. Thanks. You probably have 2 different dates because I re-estimated her birth several years ago to correspond with the birth of the first child James in 1810. I shared that with a lot of people. She is buried with Thomas in the Cedar Creek cemetery, Sumner township, Warren county, Illinois. She died 11 February 1855. Thomas died 21 November 1871 at age 83 years. Oh my gosh! I have been looking for his burial place and probate for years! He was in Shelby Co., IL in the 1870 census and I just assumed he was buried there. Do you have anything else on him I should know? or have? Do you have anything else on Ann? Her parents, etc.? Which spelling of her name do you think is correct? These are not my line, but since they all moved to the same place in Illinois, they are somewhat easy to track. My notes for Ann read, !She is found in the 1850 Mercer county census, Ohio Grove township, age 53 and born in Pennsylvania. She is buried with her husband in the Cedar Creek Cemetery in Sumner township, Warren county, Illinois. >> Thank you so very much. If you don't have anything else, I will look for probate in Warren Co., IL when I am in Salt Lake the last of Feb. Pat

Its great the way this news group is growing. Thanks to Kay for getting it set up. Since there are so many new members, I want to be sure everyone knows about the BROWNLEE Home Page I have set up at: http://members.aol.com/brudo1/index.html I welcome your input. I also have a database containing about 7,000 names of the descendants of the Brownlees of Torfoot Scotland. Will be glad to check for your names. Betty Rudolph Boise, Idaho

Hey folks time to celebrate we have passed a new milestone. 61 subscribers!!!!! Congrats! Keep up the great work Kay Cardwell-Davis
O.K. Here is my most pressing BROWNLEE problem. My ancestor, John BROWNLEE, was b. at Torfoot in Lanarkshire, Scotland on 11 Apr. 1699, the son of John BROWNLEE, the 3rd Laird of Torfoot, and Janet HAMILTON. He came to America about 1750, or possible a little earlier, and settled in the Lancaster/York Co. PA area. WHO WAS HIS WIFE? My second most pressing problem: Need to find the descendants of John BROWNLEE, son of James Brownlee and Elizabeth Jane RANKIN (this would be a grandson of the above John) who settled in LA in the early 1800s. Believe he md. Margaret BARNES and d. abt. 1827 in Quichita Parish. Third, I would like to identify the BROWNLEES who lived in Westmoreland Co. PA. Joseph BROWNLEE md. Elizabeth GUTHRIE and was killed, along with his young son John, by the Indians in 1782 in the raid on Hannastown. He had a brother, Hugh. There is also a James and Thomas in early Westmoreland Co. records. Have a lot of information on this Joseph, but can't find his parentage. WAS THIS FAMILY CONNECTED TO THE WASHINGTON CO. PA BROWNLEES? Any clues on these questions would be most appreciated. Betty Rudolph
Yes to archiving! It is irrational to discard the valuable info - and extended typing- some folks contribute. And our intemperate remarks are unfortnately remembered whether we archive or not. Dave McCutchan
