This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I believe that George went by the nickname Wash. They lived in Houston County, which was subdivided into Anderson County, TX. G. W. is buried in the Old Cemetery at Palestine and I would like to know if someone could see if Flora is buried there as well. They had five daughters, Martha Jane, b 1838, d 1885, Mary I, b. 1839, Flora A, b 1844, S Amanda, b 1846 and Margaret M., b 1848. G. W. died before 1850 at about 42 and Flora died before 1860, leaving the youngest girls orphans. Their older sister married Nathan Yelverton, a doctor and the three youngest lived with them until of marriage age at which time I lose track of the family. I would like to find Flora Wilkerson's children in hopes they would know more about her family s origins in North Carolina.
Maybe this will help a bit. Hallum, Amanda Browning and Maggie Wilkins Browning in that the said Amanda and Maggie Wilkins Browning died in said Anderson County about the close of the late Civil War 1861-1865. They were never married and died without issue surviving them but left as their sole surviving heirs the said Martha J. Leaverton, Flora Chambers and Mary J. Hallum. That on the 9th day of March 1869 at the date of a deed purporting to have been executed by Martha J. Leaverton and Flora A. Chambers to Mary J. and R. G. Hallum the said Martha J. Leaverton and Flora A. Chambers now both widows the husband of said Martha J. Leaverton having died before said date and the said Flora A. Chambers’ husband having been divorced before said date and they and the said Mary J. That affiant was also personally acquainted with said Mary J. Hallum formerly Mary J Browning and her husband R. G. Hallum that they both died in Anderson County Texas in the year 1878 and 1877 respectively and left surviving them as their sole and only surviving heirs their children viz Robert G., Rapley, A.
