KY Hi, Tom, Jean, Lee, & Kelly. This is Winslow Browning. I appreciate your quick responses (9/1/99) to my (8/31/99) entry on [email protected], Yes,Tom, I think I will take you up on your generous offer to scan your files for me, but not just yet. I know that's going to take a lot of your time. I can be patient. Of immediate interest is the fact that you are Researching BROWNING, REED, MOODY, HUMPHRIES. Is your REED connection the same as mine? My Great-Great-grandmother was Julia Reed, daughter of William Reed. On 6/19/1832, Julia Reed maried Ludwell Yancy Browning. (Ludwell Yancy,1807) Their children were: William Reed,1833; Thomas,1834; Mary,1837; Elizabeth,1839; Woodville,1840(is this Edmund Woodville?); Ludwell Yancy,1842 died 1843; Ludwell Yancy,Jr.,1844; Theodoric Lee,1845. It certainly would be good luck if one of these was yours, but that's too easy, probably. (I came from Ludwell Yancy, Jr.). I agree that the naming practice of our ancestors (WHOEVER they are) provided ample opportunity to err, for those of us who try to place them in some sort of structure. When I first started this pursuit, it seemed to me that in every generation there were seven to ten descendants of every member of that generation, and so on, and so on, and so on. And that every member of each generation felt compelled to name his offspring names used by the preceding generation, so that in generation 1,there was one John with one son John, and nine sons with other names. In generation 2, there was one son John with one son John, and nine other sons with one son John ( Ten sons John). In generation 3, there were ten sons John with one son John and ninety other sons with a son John ( One hundred Johns in only 3 generations. Maybe we could get some of them mixed up). The other names were hallowed, too, and so we have several Williams, and Jacobs, and Joshuas,Edmunds, Woodvilles, and Toms. Only Four Ludwell Yancys that I know of, and three Winslows, so far. One of the people who responded to my entry was Lee Minnis. I don't know if you saw his entry on roots web at 11:40 AM, 9/1/99. He provides information on the children of Joshua and Nancy Ann Scott. Joshua had a father named John,a brother named John, and a son named John, and probably some uncles named John - all in Culpepper, Co.,VA. He has a website at http://home.att.net/~lminnis/thomas.htm It was Kelly Parks entry of 8/7/99 that sparked my entry of 8/31/99. On 9/1/99, he responded with a connection at Thomas and Edmund (sons of Joshua). Kelly has websites at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Garden/5881/ and http://www.kellyparks.cjb.net. His email address is [email protected], and he requests from us a mailing address if there is a family connection. Says he has lost several cousins because they change internet server providers. I hope I'm correct in saying 'he'. Kelly is a nice name for either gender. Jean McCullough posted an entry 9/1/99 also, at 8:14 AM. She has the will of John Browning,1728 Culpepper,Co,VA, and asks that all of us add Clara to the list of children of John and Elizabeth Demarest. She also reminds us that after Elizabeth died, John married Susannah Boring and moved to Greene Co, Georgia. The will names his beneficiaries as: Wife Susannah; sons William, Francis, & John; daughters Anna Bird, Phebe Boring, Sincy Fuller,Clara Harrelson, and Millicent Wright. His will goes on , " I also give to my son Joshua Browning one Dollar and desire my Executors to pay him that sum....." Wonder what Joshua did. He would be My ancestor ! I apologize to everybody for my error in the 8/31/99 entries saying John died in Culpepper Co, VA, and omitting his marriage to Susannah. I had that information and inadvertently omitted it from the postings.
