Margaret, I'm also researching Brownings who came from Kentucky and were in Illinois and then Iowa. My husband's grgrgrandmother is Margaret A. Browning born 1826 Kentucky, she married 1847 in Vermilion Co., IL..she died in Wayne Co., Iowa where she is buried. I have a little more information on her. Does she sound like part of your Brownings? As Margaret knows, I am also descended from Isaac C. Browning through his son, Benjamin. KY>White Co. IL>Pope Co. IL. Isaac & his family were instrumental in helping start Zion Methodist Church in Pope Co. Our brick wall has been who his parents were and where in Kentucky they came from. Any new info or clues out there? As an added note: Benjamin's son, James Wesley "Wes" or "J.W." was a prominent merchant in Johnson Co. IL before his untimely death in June 1899 (three weeks before my Grandmother, Jeannette Elois Browning Soper was born.)
