    3. I have recently joined this list and I am from England most of you seem to be from America and so far I haven't seen anything around my neck of the woods.but as there are so many browning's there must be one of mine strayed over the big pond. henry Browning married Elizabeth litter by licence 1691 ,he was a miller from Henfield she was from petworth, some of their descendants live in henfield still.my decent Henry + Elizabeth litter 1691/ Thomas and Rachel /henry + Ann horley 1775/ Thomas + Frances /henry + Sarah shoulder nee mills 1830 /Sarah + Thomas Willard 1870 she was my great grandmother and she died in 1921. henry and Ann had 3 sons and a prodigious number of living children who grew up and married and had large living families of there own he had 33 grandchildren and I have found 134 great grandchildren.Thomas had over 100 living descendants when he died in 1874 ,only a few still in Henfield.as he was a poor man we can only attribute his rather grand memorial to everyone chipping in a little and ending with a lot. my first Henry Has been a trail for the last 10 years I have sought him in vain all the Henry's around at his time [and there are a number] have all married somewhere else or died .so far every turning has been a dead end. I do not give up hope ,somewhere out there is that small piece of evidence of his origins .I just have to look in the right place, which is after all what all good detectives have to do. If you find your origins are in Sussex I will look through my information for you I do have info on some other Brownings I turned up in my searches which may be of use to someone else. 3. Hello Christine Like yourself I have not found many listers searching BROWNINGS in England. One of my BROWNINGS do have their location as Sussex on the 1881 Census. However I do not know what happened to him since that time and if you find him in your files I would be grateful. Jeffrey BROWNING, born 1862, Saffron Walden, Essex. Jeffrey appears on the 1881 Census aged 18, unmarried, lodger at 4 South Street, Newhaven, Sussex, occupation 2nd Class Clerk HM Customs. Living at home of John Gurr (Customs Asst Officer). At the time of this Census Jeffrey's parents were living in Kensington with their daughter Frances Mary BROWNING. His parents were: Alfred French BROWNING and Emmeline Mary FRENCH.
