    1. [BROWNING] Granville/ William A ugustus Browning

    3. There are four William A. and one William Augustus, but the date for this William Augustus does not match--he was born in 1877 and was (possibly) the son of Henry Clay Browning and Ella Virginia Hawthorne. He died in 1931. There are a LOT of just plain William Brownings. No Granville is listed. I find a William Browning (1710) and Miss Williamson, were the parents of Jacob Browning (b.1744 in Frederick Co, Maryland). He married twice; first to Rachel BURNETT in 1786, and second to Nancy Wilson, about 1825. He had at least ten children by (at least) one or both wives. It looks like only the last two were born of the second marriage. There are a LOT of BURDETTE surnames in the book, but Rachel is the only Burnett. There is a Barrett and a Barton in the surname list, but no Barnett. Don't give up on this line, however; I have a hunch that there is a definite connection and somewhere I have seen the names Braxton and Granville in my searches. I will definitely keep this in mind and do a little more digging as I can. The Hurley book is most helpful, but not all inclusive and not without mistakes (however few). Genealogy research is mostly a few hunches backed up with a lot of effort. Mitzi
