Hi! This is in reply to Mitzi Hammond recent email about what caused the rift in the Browning family resulting with the northern and southern families. I don't think it was a big rift. Jonathan and his brother James Green joined the LDS (Latter-Day Saint) faith which also has the nickname of Mormon. The Mormons stayed together in a big group. First they settled in Kirtland, OH, but because of persecution were forced to leave. They then traveled on to Nauvoo. Same story. They tried to find a place that no one else wanted. These places weren't the usual places you wanted to move to. Nauvoo was swamp and malaria was practically a normal illness there. I doubt the Brownings who were not LDS would desire to move there. Thus caused the seperation. Jonathan went back to IL to try to teach his family the gospel but they didn't care for it. Betseylee
