She was born circa 1815 in either MD. or OH(I've seen both states listed on different census's).Who knows it might even be PA.now. Thanks again! In the 1850 Macon Co., AL Census, Simpson is shown as being 31 b. GA. I found the Simpson Browning in Orange Co., NC. He d. 21 May 1920 in Durham, NC. In 1840 Thomas Co., GA Census, Simpson Browning would not have fit into the 20-29 category, had he been b. 1807. In Elizabeth Averett's Estate papers, her daughter Elizabeth (Averett) Browning is listed as being the wife of Simpson Browning he reside in Macon Co., AL. To me, that alone makes the Simpson b. abt. 1820 in GA in Macon Co., AL Census, mine, not including Census records that show him in Thomas Co., GA 1840, 1850 in Macon Co., AL b. GA.

I have to ask, though, what evidence you have that shows Simpson Browning of Alabama is the Simpson Browning of Thomas Co., GA? The thing is, the Simpson Browning of Greene County, GA was listed as a son of John Browning and Nancy Peebles Browning. We have finally figured out that E. F. Browning's book confused two different John Browning families. One family went to Thomas County, GA, including a Radford Browning (and your Simpson is part of this family), and the other eventually landed in Arkansas. John and Nancy Peebles Browning are the ones that landed in Arkansas NOT John Radford Browning. We know that Simpson Browning was in Thomas County as your research confirms. Since there seems to be more than one Simpson Browning there needs to be evidence that your Simpson, in Alabama, is the one from Thomas County. Could he be the son of John and Nancy Peebles Browning? I don't think it likely as we find on other records on hi! m except Bible records published by the DAR and some of their material is based on E. F. Browning's book. In 1860 there was a Simpson Browning in Orange Co., NC living next door to Richard Browning who was 75 at the time. John Browning who went to Clark Co., AR was from Caswell Co., NC. Caswell was part of Orange County until 1777 so this Simpson may be somehow related. What a tangled web they wove!! As to Averetts, have you asked on the Averett board?

    3. There is no documentation that I know of- no known source- for documenting Capt. Browning. If anyone knows of any documentation I would be interested. The records of Jamestown were burnt. So the only source I know of is passed down genealogy. Elizabeth Averett 9 Jun 1842 in Thomas Co., GA. I have visited that courthouse and have a copy of that marriage certificate online. I have seen so many postings at Ancestry.com that show Simpson Browning b. 1807 in Green Co., GA. He may have been born in Green Co., GA; however, he was not born in 1807. In the 1840 Thomas Co., GA Census, he is hh with one male 20-29 years and one female 50-59 years. In the 1850 Macon Co., AL Census, he is hh 31 b. GA. His family is not with him at this time and I cannot find them anywhere. I have a copy of the 1855 Alabama State Census showing Simpson Browning hh with a wife and three daughters. I know that Elizabeth was still living when her mother died. Where was Elizabeth and the children in the 1850 Census and where was the family in the 1860 AL Census? I have a copy of the CSA Service Records for Simpson Browning showing he d. Nov 1862. I have found the name of one daughter, (via family trees at Ancestry.co! m) Mary Browning, who m. Jesse Lee. How does anyone know Mary was their daughter? I know she married in Lafayette Co., AR where an uncle of hers lived before his death, and am wondering if after Simpson's death the family moved to AR. Elizabeth Averett's brother, Wilson B. Averett was my great, great grandfather. Any assistance will be appreciated.
