    3. Wayne, I would love to trade information, I believe we have emailed before...I know more about Margaret's husband's family than her's...but I believe she and her family ended up in Wayne Co., Iowa because she inherited some land or something about 1869... Send me what you have, and I'll most happily look it over and hopefully there's a connection. 3. Do you know when and where Isaac C. Browning (b. abt 1807 KY) died and was buried? Has any death record or obit been found for him? Are any church records from White Co., IL or Zion Methodist Church in Pope Co. extant? Just wondering what sort of research has already been done on his death. It would also help a bit to know how he named all his children. 1. Re: [BROWNING] Browning Roots in So. Illinois
    2. I have a Browning family that came from Owsley/Jackson counties in KY - and most of them seemed to have disappeared after the 1860 census. They are: John Browning born 1820 in KY Alsey (Alsa) Bishop Browning born 1825 in KY Joseph Browning born 1849 George Browning born 1851 Julia Ann Browning born 1853 (died as infant) William browning born 1854 Marian Browning born 1856 James browning born 1858 The only children of the above John and Alsey that I can account for is Joseph Browning - he lived with his aunt Jane Browning Simpson and grandmother Polly Browning Ambrose in the 1870 Owsley County, KY census. He shows up again in the 1880 Laurel County census living near his uncle George Browning. I saw one John Browning born ca 1820 that moved to Illinois and had a different wife by 1880 - so I had no idea whether it could be the same person. John born 1820 was the son of John Browning and Polly Rader Browning Ambrose. If this rings a bell with anyone, let me know! Pat

    3. Mary Ellen, I may be able to help some, but I am on vacation right now in Colorado and Wyoming, so don't have access to everything. I'm just thinking that with William Rankin having the Rankin name, he could be a son of Joshua Browning and Margaret Rankin. There is a lady in Richardson that descends from that line, but I don't have her name with me. We are thinking that Joshua is a son of John Browning, but I'm hazy on all the details. 3. Hi Mary Ellen, None of your names ring a bell with me. I've searched for more info on Granville Browning for yrs. He and his family were in the VA area. My grandmother was Matilda Elnora Browning and she passed away a yr. before I was born. All I have been able to find is that she was probably a part of the Granville Browning family coming out of VA into KY and eventually into IL. I know that my family was in the Belleville area of IL, which is near St. Louis and her father was Reuben Lively Browning. I just can't get back any further than Granville and not sure that he is connected or not . I don't know your area but there were several Browning which came to the St. Clair Co. of IL which would include Belleville and sevral other smaller towns which is where my grandmother's family cme from. In fact my father's family came from the same area, my maiden name was Quick and many of my Dad's family came from that area. I do know there were several Browning in the areas of Sparta, Bellevill, Marissae and other small towns, which would be St. Clair Co. IL. I still do some searching on the net but just had to put the genealogy aide for awhile, I'm sure you know by now that it will drive you crazy. ha i'm about 100-150 mile from the Belleville, Marissa and many other small towns. Good luck with your search and if you every find anything that you think I can help with please send a note. Sorry I was of no help in this connection.
