    3. I received yesterday papers from Thelma Mandaville who lives in Austin, Texas. She is a descendant of Daniel Browning, son of John and Nancy Peebles Browning. This is a treasure. Among the papers is a law suit against the Browning Heirs. In it, Daniel Browning's survivors are listed. The are: Nancy Browning, his widow Christopher Columbus Browning John Browning L. J. Potter and Mary Potter, his wife, formerly Mary Browning John Bostwick and Pamela Bostwick, his wife, formerly Pamela Browning J. B. Patterson and Martha Patterson, his wife, formerly Martha Browning William Cox and Frances Cox, his wife, formerly Frances Browning "which said Christopher C. Browning, John Browning, Mary Potter, Martha Patterson, Pamela Bostwick, and Frances Cox are children and heirs at law of said Daniel Browning deceased." I don't have a specific date because the 2nd page is missing, but it refers to Spring term, 1848. The paper refers to "the present fall term, 1848." So I assume that Daniel died before then. And then, looking at the papers that Cindy found on John Browning's estate, heirs were named on Apr 14, 1847 and Daniel was not among them. So, it is likely that Daniel died before Apr 14, 1847. But, I am putting that he died before Fall 1848 because I am not sure enough otherwise. OK, here is a problem I created- I admit it - and thinking long and hard about it, I am sure I made an assumption. I have that John and Nancy Peebles Browning had a daughter, Permelia. I found her in the marriage records when she married John H. Bostwick (who I am also related to). Since Pamelia Browning, daughter of John's son William, had definitely married William Haralson Browning, AND William F. Browning, son of John and Nancy, married Margaret Eliza Bostwick, John Bostwick's older sister. I figured that brother and sister married brother and sister, not an uncommon thing. I also surmised that the only other Browning family that Permelia could belong to was John and Nancy Peebles Browning, even though she was left out of the Bible records. I think at that time I also did not know that Daniel had been in Lowndes County, only something I have learned relatively recently. I also did this when I was new to genealogy and if I did that today, I would make great big notes that this was speculation. With that admission, Permelia (Pamela) is NOT the child of John and Nancy, but their granddaughter and daughter of Daniel. See - I admit when I make mistakes. This is why I truly like to have evidence, hard copy, of what is what. I also have a Henry Browning as a son of Daniel and Nancy Sorrell Browning, but he is not mentioned in these papers. This comes from the EF Browning book so I am really suspect as to this son of Daniel. However, EF lists Daniel's children as: Columbus, John B., Henry, and Martha. The other three children are correct but he is missing Mary and Frances and he shows that Martha married John Potter when it was Mary (wife of L. J. Potter). All of these are common names except, of course, Columbus. I am not at all sure about Henry. The person that brought the law suit was Henry Adams. I do not know how he, Henry Adams, related, if at all. May have just been a business deal gone bad. Well, there you go. We know where Daniel landed, and his heirs, as well as my mistake early one. 3. Hi Jim, I have just joined the Browning list on Rootsweb...my particular interest is with a Charles John BROWNING supposedly born in the City of New York on 16th May 1853 and who could have travelled to England before ending up in Australia and marrying a local girl, named Adella Stoneham in Sydney in 1884. I do not know his parents names or if he had any siblings as I cannot find any birth record of him in either New York or England. He states his birth place of New York on all his kids birth certificates but gives no parents names on his marriage certificate. By all accounts he was a bit of a rogue and family legend has him being kicked out of either USA or England for performing illegal abortions! His employment history while in Australia was many and varied ranging from a Chemist, newspaper correspondent, journalist, merchant and accountant! I am at a loss now when I received a copy of your email and am hoping you may be able to point me in the right direction or offer some advice. Charles John is my 2 x great grandfather. 2. Jane, If your facts are right, and they usually are, I think James Thomas Browning, was born c1859, Muhlenberg Co., KY, son of Gordon Anderson Browning and Catherine Whitmer. Gordon on the 1860 cen., Muhl. Co., as A Browning. He b. c1833, died 1866. Gordon a son of Maihen Browning and Malinda Browning (nee Browning). I have much more on this line if you believe it is correct. I do not have anything on James T., besides the fact he was born c1859, and the 1860 & 70 cen. Muhl. Co., KY, 1860 cen., A Browning 27 TN, Catherine 28 KY, Jas. T. 1 KY 1870 cen., Catherine 37 KY, Thomas 11, Lloyd 9, Julia A 6, Nancy 4, all children b. KY In my book as #1850/1850c Let me know your thoughts. Jim Richey

Notice it says "lodger" and not son. 1920 Muhlenberg Co KY Census in hh of John Lee as "Hosey" Browning b 1907 KY, adopted son. That mean that Hosie was adopted by John Lee. So James Thomas Browning is Hosie's blood relative (genetic father) and Fannie B. Parker was probably his mother.

His g-father was Hosie Browning 1905-1986. His siblings were "Lum", Cassie, and William. Thats I all new until today someone sent me info saying their fathers name was James Thomas Browning (1859). Of course there are many spellings of Hosie out there floating around, I know he was adopted, but the info received today confuses me. I question myself now, was he adopted by the Browning Family or a guy named John Lee. The info I received today also said he had another sibling named Flora. His mothers name was Fannie B. Parker. I found all of your info and it looks as if it may all fall into place together, but I thought I'd ask you. Maybe you know a little more than me and could let me know before I copy it all down. Thank you for your time and any help you may have to offer, Traci Browning
