Would appreciate any information you may have. The problem is that I don't have a William Browning born in 1756. And then the other problem is that the middle name Stanton was in Thomas Stanton Sabin, who married Jesse Browning's daughter Maria. So, the Stanton that I was looking for is in the Sabin family. I had assumed that the next two generations of Sabin had the middle name from a Sabin maiden name of a mother. It didn't occur to me that it was from the Browning side. It must be on both side!!! They both must have known Stanton family. There was a very prominent Stanton family in the East in I think Conn. or Vt. I can't remember now and my notes are buried at the moment. We need to keep going on this or it will drive me to more coffee. Linda Swaney Sabin in Ohio
Do you happen to have any information on Francis Franklin BROWNING m. 1st Sarah SWORD with whom he had 4 boys and then deserted her? Thanks you. Hi - Yes, my info shows William marrying Sarah in 1781. What date do you have? Here is the family of John Browning & Ann Hazard: 14. John Browning was born 4 March 1696 in Kingstown. He and his family were Quakers. His father left him 100 acres in Point Judith. He died in 1777 in Exeter and was buried in the Quaker Burial Ground.[1] He married Ann Hazard, daughter of Jeremiah Hazard and Sarah Smith, on 21 April 1721.[2] She died in 1770.[3] They had the following children: +34 i. Thomas B. Browning +35 ii. Sarah Elizabeth Browning +36 iii. Jeremiah Browning +37 iv. Hannah Browning 38 v. Martha Browning was born in 1732 in South Kingstown. She married Samuel Powers.[4] +39 vi. Ann Browning +40 vii. Eunice Browning +41 viii. John Browning +42 ix. Mary Browning 43 x. Ephriam Browning was born on 20 Sept 1746 in South Kingstown and died on 4 March 1826 in Montville or Waterford, Connecticut. He married Susannah Davis, of Hopkinton, a daughter of Jedediah Davis and Mary Dodge, on 25 Feb 1769.[5] They were Quakers who raised nine children in New London Co., Conn. [1] Browning, p. 18. I am confused! Did you want to say that William married Sarah Stanton in 1781? I don't have that at all. Do you have children for John Browning and Ann Hazard? I have only 2 - Ann, who died unmarried and John who married Eunice Williams. Their son Jesse came to Ohio and married in 1817 Nancy Powers in Scranton, OH. Their graves are in the Fulton Co. Ohio Cemetery along with Thomas Stanton Sabin and Maria Browning Sabin and some of the family of Thomas Stanton Sabin's sister, Julia Sabin Fauble (her second husband). It is a beautiful cemetery and very well kept. So, I still don't see where Sarah comes in here. I am sorry if I am having a senior moment? Linda Swaney Sabin in Ohio

Yes, the farther back you go the worse it gets. What happens often is that people have built their tree based on a list of names with no dates available, and done a standard "date estimation" based on the parents being an average 19 and 22 when the first child is born. Do that for a few generations and then suddenly you will find a set of parents WITH dates, and realize you are WAY off. I have one family in my database where someone had the granfather and grandson, with the same first name, married to the same woman! They really have that one turned around, and I am not sure what to do with it yet. Someday we will have a good laugh about it with the people we're researching! Terrie
Hi Linda - Sarah Stanton is also a descendant of Nathaniel Browning. (Nathaniel & Sarah Freeborn 1; Wm. T. & Rebecca Wilbur 2; John Browning & Ann Hazard 3; Sarah Elizabeth Browning & Samuel Stanton 4; Sarah Stanton & William Browning 5.) I am working on an update on the RI Brownings. I have traced several lines into Ohio and would like to compare what I have with what you have. Here's a family listing for Sarah and William: William Browning[1] was born on 21 April 1756 in South Kingstown. He was an elder in the Baptist church and a farmer in Green Hill, Charlestown. His earmark was a ____ crop of both ears and a happenny behind the left ear.[2] He was listed in the 1777 Military Census as between 16 and 50 and able to bear arms. He served in the Revolutionary Army as an Ensign, Co. 4, Reg. 2[3]. He died 30 April 1825.[4] He married Sarah Stanton (#90) in 1781 in South Kingstown. She was born about 1758 and died on 2 April 1825 in Green Hill. They had the following children, all born in South Kingstown: +122 i. William Tripp Browning +123 ii. Samuel Stanton Browning was born on 2 Oct. 1792.[5] +124 iii. Elizabeth Browning was born on 19 Aug. 1795. +125 iv. Abiel Tripp Browning was born on 1 July 1796. +126 v. George Hazard Browning 127 vi. Sarah Browning was born in 1804.[6] 128 vii. Amy K. Browning was born in 1806.[7] [1] Browning, p. 193. [2] Charlestown, R.I., Earmarks, recorded 13 June 1781. Some have Levi Browning fathering a child when he was 8 years old. Another has a female giving birth when she was about 4 years old and then another when she was 7. I am new to a lot of this stuff, so I really appreciate the help that you have given me. Thank you, Steven Browning stevenb25607@msn.com

I lost track of all my cousins after my parents died 12 and 16 years ago, trying to find my cousins was what got me started doing research into my ancestors 4 1/2 years ago. One Browning cousin was already tracing the family tree and sent me copies of Joel Hagers Browning family tree work, he's been doing this for over 20 years. At the time Joel only had my grand dad Ozas approximate birth date, same for his dad and same or his dad. After finding the cemetery online and then visiting it myself three years ago (after finding all my Carroll cousins and making a trip up to WV for a reunion and making an overnight trip from Huntington to Man) and taking pictures of the graves of my Brownings I forwarded the info on to Joel along with all the death certificates I found for all of the Brownings too. I now! have birth and death dates of all my deceased aunts and uncles which I got for Jim Richie to put in his soon to be released second book of the Brownings of SW WV and surrounding areas, info I'll pass on to Joel too to add to his database. If you have kin buried in the Christian cemetery you must be a close cousin somehow, thru Ballard Preston and Mary Browning or Henderson and Elizabeth Canterbury Browning ???

Steven, I would like to discuss and share my data with you on the WVV/VA families. However, I am currently finishing up my 2d book on the Browning families and will not have time to get into it all for a few weeks.
