Author: JudythJ Surnames: Browning, O'Neal, Davis Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.browning/1224.2.1.1.1.1.1.3.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I can provide little information on John Browning, other than that he was an alcoholic (not insane as written in census). The oldest daughter was caring for him while the youngest daughter Caroline Browning Davis was keeping her mother. Yes, that was Caroline's mother, not James' in the 1870 census. Martha Ann was still living with them in 1880 census. I have a picture of her and her sister Sarah (my ggg-grandmother) that was taken around 1870-1880. There is no record that John and Martha divorced. I did the research that tied the Pike Co., IL O'Neal's to John and Elizabeth Embry O'Neal. John O'Neal, III of the O'Neal Association has the family on Ancestry. Search Ancestry World Tree for "Martha Ann O'Neal with spouse John Browning" for her pedigree. Author: JulsGo Surnames: BROWNING, MACK, ONEAL, TITSWORTH, MCCARRY, HALBERT Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.browning/1224.2.1.1.1.1.1.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thought I would revive this thread... Here is my line... I am wondering about 1807 being the date of birth for John S... I have seen 1811 and 1807/8 according to the censuses... My great grandmother was Maud Browning, b March 1892 in Greene County, Illinois. Her parents were George T. Browning and Frances Halbert. George was born October 1861 in Illinois. George's parents were Thomas Browning (b. 1838 in IL) and Mary Ann Mack (I believe Mack was her last name)... Thomas's parents were John S Browning (b. 1811 in KY) and Martha O'Neal (born 1813 in Kentucky)... Unsure on John S. Browning's parentage... Other than Maud and George and Frances I don't have any sources to verify this information other than censuses... The children of John S. and Martha (O'Neal) Browining were (this is according to the 1850 and 1860 censuses): William, born 1835 Adeline, b. 1836 (married Franklin Titsworth 9 June 1853 in Pike, Illinois) Thomas, b. 1838 (married Mary Ann Mack) Jacob, b. 1839 John, b. 1841 Sarah, b 1843 Mary, b. 1848 Caroline, 1853 John S. is living with Adeline and her family in the 1870 census... I am "assuming" that Martha had died by then... Okay, while relooking on Ancestry.com, I found Martha (relation is Mother) living with James and Caroline Davis in Atlas, Pike, Illinois)... I am wondering if this is Caroline Browning and the relationship should be mother-in-law??? Of course IF this is her, where is she in the 1870 census? Did they divorce? All the children were born in Illinois, again according to the censuses... The children of Thomas and Mary Ann (according to the 1870-1880 censuses): Robert, b. 1858 Henrietta, b. 1860 George T, b. 1861 Fannie, b. 1869 Hattie M, b. 1877 The area of Illinois for these families are Pike and Greene County, Illinois... I am looking for any family to connect with... I have more to share but don't want to post any unnecessary information... LOL I am mainly looking for some info on John S. Browning... I know Kentucky but not sure where... I am thinking from what I have researched thus far that it could be Bracken County, KY but of course I need to do more researching to make sure... Hope to hear from someone that connect to me... Juls Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [BROWNING] BROWNING/HORTON CABINET CARD PHOTOS FOUND IN TEXAS
    2. Dear List, I have rescued 4 cabinet card photos from McDonnald & Sterry Photographers, which was located at 520 & 522 Broadway in Albany, NY. The photos are all identified in a beautiful ink script on the back side of each card as Horton children. This family of Wallace Nelson Horton and Pricilla Miranda Browning (1849-1899) shows on the 1880 census in Greenbush, Rensselaer Co. NY. The size and shape of the actual "card" is all the same, although each background is a little different. All 4 of the photos are in excellent condition, and the children are dressed in their "Sunday best". These children are identified as listed below: Agnes Grace Horton, age 14-Nov 5, 1884 James Barnett Horton, age 12, Oct 29, 1884 Thomas Atwood Horton, age 8, Aug 18th 1884 Charles Browning Horton, age 4, Dec 13th 1884 I try to rescue and return old photographs to their family. It is my own small way of saving somebody's past. So, if you may connect to these children, and/or have an interest in these photos, I would like to hear from you. Sincerely, Judy in TX

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone.
