H. Browning of Robertson Co, and his sons Clyde and Aubrey, and a daughter, "Mrs. James Inglis" If you would like for me to send you information on Brownings in these areas, or to look up names for you, please feel free to write to me. Would be happy to share what info i have. Have a great weekend! Donna
Thank you so much for posting the Will of Edmund Browning. I descend from Elijah b ca 1768, the son of Caleb, b ca 1750. I'm having so much trouble with this because nobody seems to know much about this family. I have Edmund married twice. First to a Mary ? ca 1750, with only Caleb as a child. Then second to a Mary Ann Murphy , b ca 1734, m ca 1776. I have these kids as Joshua, Mary, Nancy Haney, Elizabeth b ca 1768, John b ca 1770, Robert b ca 1770, Rachel b ca 1777, Nimrod b ca 1777, On Caleb's kids I know nothing about Henry, b ca 1772, James, b ca 1774, I know Jane b ca 1774 married an Andrew Ramsey and that's all, I have Lucinda b ca 1776 married to John Flynn, Mildred b ca 1778. I know some about Toliver b ca 1771. On Elijah b ca 1768, all I know is he has 1 son named Gilbert b ca 1807. I don't know who is wife is or if he has other children. I don't know of a Browning yet that doesn't have lots of kids! Gilbert is my line. G ilbert married Elizabeth Steele and had Samuel Stack Browning b ca 1826, that married Martha Thornton, Jackson Co, IL. I don't know where any of the 7 kids of Gilbert were born. Edmund Browning is the father of the Caleb Browning who supposedly married Alcey Grigsby. I have no proof that she was a Grigsby, but others might. I show two marriages for Benjamin Grigsbys: one on 23 Dec 1786 in Fauquier Co., VA. to Elizabeth Duncan; and the second was in 1790, also in Fauquier Co., to Alice Browning, presumably Caleb Browning's widow. Maybe this is where the Grigsby comes in. It seems, also, that there is a problem with the birthdate of 1734 given for Caleb by E. F. Browning and I think it may have been closer to 1750. He is supposed to have died about 1786 in Fauquier Co. Of Caleb's children, Tolliver was in Clark Co., KY. by 1795, when he first appears in the taxlists. Henry first appears on a Clark Co. taxlist in 1796 as a male 16 years of age, but under 21, and continues there until about 1832 or 1833 when he removed to Henry Co., KY. where he died leaving a will dated 17 June 1856. Hello Kit, Jo and other BROWNINGS, Would appreciate any additional info you may have on Caleb BROWNING; especially place of birth, death, wife and children. My Granville, Braxton and possibly William A. BROWNING came out of Montgomery Co., VA into TN and IL. Granville was born abt. 1790 VA and I have been told he may connect to Caleb. The only thing I have found is birth dates for your Caleb (1734) and Caleb (abt. 1763) but no additional info on them. I have been up against that well known brick wall far too long. Any and all help appreciated. I am researching a Perry L. Browning b. ~1847 in SC - married Mary ? ~1868 and had three daughters (Anna Marilda, Margaret, and Sarah) By 1880, Perry was a widower. On 10 Jun 1880, he married Lavina R. Faulkner in Knox Co., TN. They had four sons ( William Jasper, John S., Joseph W. and Don L.) Perry died before 1910 in Knox Co., TN. Does this person sound familier to anyone? I have hit a wall when it comes to his parentage. Any info would be appreciated. Contact [email protected] Thanks, Lori Browning

A scanned photo of a Corie Browning sent to a Mr. Charlie Archie has come into my hands and the original is available for a small fee (from another party). Photo appears to be late 1800's/early 1900's judging from the hairstyle and clothing! If you are still out there my friend; please email me at: [email protected] Sincerely, Sherrie Browning Wallace

One source believes that Elizabeth LLOYD/LOYD was a daughter of George LOYD and his wife Joanna GREGSON. George LOYD operated the Inn which was adjacent to the early courthouse in Essex Co., VA. When he died in 1712, he was survived by his wife Joanna, and several daughters and one son, Samuel. Samuel moved to the same area of King & Queen Co. as Francis BROWNING. His mother, Joanna (sister of Thomas GREGSON, a merchant of Bristol, Eng.) continued operation of the Inn after the death of husband George. Samuel is not found in early Essex Co. records except as an heir of his father and his under, Thomas GREGSON. In September 1723, Spotsylvania records show the sale of Samuel LOYD's land. When he returned to Essex Co., he took up land near Peumansend Swamp - near where Francis BROWNING owned land. Other sources believe Elizabeth to be daughter of Sampson LLOYD and Elizabeth GOOD. This line goes back to King Henry VIII of England and according to Burke's "Landed Gentry", Sampson had four daughters by Elizabeth GOOD. They aren't named. Burke's "History of Commoners of GB & Ireland..." names the four girls and says Elizabeth LLOYD was born 08 January 1687 and died 30 March 1697 (age 10). If this is correct, this Elizabeth LLOYD is not the one who married Francis BROWNING. Still other sources say the wife of Francis BROWNING was Elizabeth Carter LLOYD. Elizabeth Carter LLOYD was the widow of Col. John CARTER, married John LLOYD, s/o Col. Wm. LLOYD. Elizabeth CARTER LLOYD was administratrix of her late husband's estate and after her death her husband John LLOYD took over responsibilites. Some say that John and Elizabeth CARTER LLOYD had a daughter, Elizabeth LLOYD, who married Francis BROWNING. (The above info sent to me by Dottie Elliott) Karen King Scales

Found a great site- from the Bureau of Land Management... and it is geneology researcher friendly! If your ancestors bought land, chances are, you will find the info here. But to increase your chances of finding the info, please put % after the first and last names. For example- Patentee Last name- Tucker% Patentee First name- John% This serves like a soundex, looking for any similar names. As we well know, sometimes names are misspelled on documents! Oh, keep in mind that county boundaries changed over the years, so look in all counties of the state, so you don't overlook anything! By the way, they even provide a copy of the original document of sale, which you can download! The site can be found at- http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/search.asp?s=31 Good luck in your research! Donna
