I am trying to assemble a book on the descendants of John Browning, first wige believed to be Elizabeth Demarest, but no concrete proof, although the circumstantial evidence I have compiled is fairly extensive. My Browning is James Brummitt Browning b. 1855 Texas, but later in Ark. married his cousin Mary Ann "Mollie" Melton b. 1848 Ark. They were married in Coryell Co. , Texas 7 Apr.,1878. I have been searching for 20 years, but can find no proof of parents for either. Believe father might have been an Isaac Browing.

I was born in Monroe County, Kentucky (next door to Barren County) and now live in Louisville, Kentucky. Like Jerre, I descend from William Browning and his wife Elizabeth Thompson. She descends through his son Thompson, I descend through his younger son, Joseph. Joseph lived in Barren County and married Rebecca White. I have two questions for Jerre: (1) are there any copies of "The Browning Families" available; and (2) you say that the identity of William's father is not know, but that he "comes from Thomas and Hester". Hi, list! My name is Linda Avery ([email protected]) and I live in Georgia. There's not too many BROWNINGs in these parts so I'm really stumped on my ggrandmother's line: "Lizzie" (Sarah Elizabeth?) BROWNING married Charles Robert "Charlie" SALMON and they lived in Rome, Floyd county, GA. Charlie died in 1931; he and Lizzie are buried at Silver Creek cemetery in Floyd county. Their children were: Edward Washington Salmon (b. abt. 1883), Wm. Isaac "Bill" Salmon (b. abt. 1889), Annie Ethel Irene Salmon (b. 1890), Maude Frances Jeretta Salmon (b. 1893), John L. McKinley Salmon (b. 1897), and Millard Trammell Salmon, Sr. (b. 1899). He also had another son named Roy. Charlie remarried Sarah Edna House BRYANT and had a son, Henry Edward SALMON (b. 1913). Charlie and Lizzie appear in the 1900 Floyd County census, Vans Valley District 1478 with 7 children. Charlie's occupation was listed as farmer who could read and write. (Charlie was also a blacksmith.) One elderly family member once told me she thought Lizzie may have been from Tennessee but this has not been substantiated. After the earthquake in 1906 (we think) they moved to Los Angeles, were Helen died in the 1920's ( unknown on death on grandfather) I have found him (grandfather) on a land claim in Trinity CO.. in northern California with a Francis Browning , Dec. 15.1879 at abt age 13. wrote a long time ago for the paper work still waiting. The earliest Browning we have found in California is a Jacob Browning in San Francisco, in the 1840's. Bessie is the daughter of William Silas Pierce b 1855? and Sarah Abbie LeCroy, b 1865?I have nothing on either Pierce or LeCroy. Merida is the son of Oliver Columbus "Lum" b 1853 FCI, married Alice Brown 1878 in FCI. I have nothing on Alice Brown. Lum was the son of Samuel Stack Browning b ca 1826 IL?and Martha Thornton b ca 1831? They were married in Jackson Co,IL in 1848. I have almost nothing on Martha Thornton.
