    3. My Browning ancestor is Rachael Caroline Browning, bc.1827 in SC or TN. d.1862-1870 probably in Posey Co, IN. She married John B. Calvin on 07 Jul 1849 in Posey Co. and an Austin Browning signed a statement that she was "of age". On the 1850 Posey Co, IN census, she is listed as Rebecca C., age 23, b.SC. Also in the household is a C. Browning, male, age 25, also b.SC. On the 1860 Posey Co, IN census, she is listed as Rachel C., age 33, b.TN. Also in the household is a Mary Browning, age 11, b. IL. I think it is very probable that Rachel was a sister to Austin, Thompson, and Charles W. Browning, children of Thomas Browning and Elizabeth Rachel Davenport. The Brownings settled in White Co, IL, just a ferry ride across the Wabash River from where the Calvins lived in northern Posey Co., IN. Would love to communicate with anyone who is researching the Browning/Davenport line or who might be able to help me identify g-g-grandma Rachel. Julia Linford Posey Co, IN [email protected]

    3. Hi: My name is Margery Sawyer, My mother was Ellen Browning,b. NE, her father was John Browning b. NE, his father was Horace Browning b. Urichsville, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, his father was John Browning b. 1818. I am searching for who John 's was and where he was born. This John Browning married Sarah Maxwell in Harrison County, Ohio in 1841 and died there in Tuscarawas County in 1850. Sarah remarried to James Wright and moved to Washington County, Nebraska. Horace and his wife Anna Pogue came shortly after and also lived in Washington County, NE. John (Horace's son went to Burt County, NE and homesteaded property). I know were many families of Brownings and Maxwells in Ohio at that time. At times Horaces says his father was born in Ohio other times he says Virginia on various census records. Anybody have this John Browning in their tree? Marg. Sawyer

    3. Hello fellow Browning researchers. Has anyone seen the article published in the "Family History Monthly" #27 about the BROWNING family name? This issue would have been somewhere around 1997. The magazine comes out monthly from the UK and is very informative. Back issues are available, but I was wanting to know if anyone has seen it, or which family of BROWNINGS it was focusing on before I order it? Regards Norma Linnane Western Australia

    2. My name is Elaine Albrecht. My GGG Grandfather was John W. Browning, born June 12, 1833 and died Dec. 22, 1927, in Braxton Co., WV. He married Mary Christina Shumaker, Nov. 22, 1855. I am decended through his son, James Wesley Browning, born June 16, 1864 in Upshur Co. and died Oct. 13, 1922. He married Emily Jane Cutlip, August 31, 1884. Their youngest son was James Oscar Browning, born July 26, 1894 and died March 24, 1980. He married Mary Jane Harrison, May 4, 1917. Their daughter Phyllis June Browning, born June 20, 1920 and died January 27, 1999, was my mother. She married Paul Hinkle. I suspect, but can't prove, that a William H. Browning, listed in the 1850, Barbour Co. census was my John W. Browning's father. One of William H. Browning's children in the census was John W. Browning and of about the right age. Also my ggg grandfather John Browning named his first son, William H. Browning.

    2. Paul and Norma
    3. Hello fellow BROWNING researchers. I am in Western Australia and researching a family of BROWNING who were in both UK and France and have a colourful history according to family folklore and not a thing to substantiate the facts. My mysterious line are as follows: Alfred French BROWNING, born abt 1835 in France as a British Subject married in Manchester UK to Emmeline Mary FRENCH 4 known children: Jeffery, born Saffron Walden, UK, 1862, died ? Frances Mary, born Saffron Walden, UK, 1864, died 1922 William Charles, born Saffron Walden, UK 1865, died ? Hubert, born Saffron Walden, UK, 1867, died ? I have identified 39 Alfred BROWNINGs deaths in the UK between 1881-1925 and presume "my man" died in 1904 in Kensington, London. I have found no trace of Jeffery, William Charles and Hubert since the 1881 Census. Perhaps they ended up in the US! Can anyone help me please? Look forward to your comments Cheers Norma Linnane

    2. Patricia L Strickler
    3. Anyone out there have a Lucius or an L.Q. Browning in their databases? I'm checking for another researcher who may or may not be on this forum. L.Q. was Lucius' father. Lucius died in early 1900's on Oklahoma, aged 22 or 23. His obit says his father (L.Q.) was "resting in Elkhart Co., Indiana" when he heard the news of his son's death. Lucius had a sister named Anna Lou Browning, b. c1885-90, who married John Bardin King. She was a schoolteacher and she died June 23,1924 in Duncan, Stephens Co., Oklahoma. She had a son named James Browning King. He knows nothing else. No death certificate -- they keep sending him the wrong one so he doesn't know where Anna was born, excepting family thought Indiana or Illinois. So if anyone knows of a Lucius, let me know at [email protected]

    3. Hello everyone, My name is Tom Brewer and although I was born in Arkansas, have lived in Tulsa, OK for most of my life. My wife Ellen and I have two grown daughters, Shelly and Emily who are grown. We have two lovable pets, Scarlett a miniature daschund, and Callie a calico cat. My Browning line is from Caleb Browning who was born abt. 1763 in Bedford Co., VA and died in 1860 in Mississippi. He was married to Betsy Sinkler in 1791. I then descend from their son Benjamin Browning who was born in 1804 and died in 1854. He married Rebecca West who was born in 1809 and died abt. 1879. Rebecca was the daughter of Thomas West and Mary Renshaw. Then I am descend from Benjamin's son, Pleasant West Browning who was born in 1846 in Jackson Co., AL and died in 1924. Pleasant married Ida Ashby and they are buried in the Macedonia Cemetery in Pittsburg, TX. Several of the Browning family had moved to Wood Co. and Camp Co., TX around the 1860 period. I then descend from Pleasant West Browning's daughter, Ethel Muersetta Browning who married Albert Parker Bynum in 1898 in Wood Co., TX. They Bynum family had also migrated to Wood Co., TX from Jackson Co., AL. They are my great-grandparents. Thank you, Tom Brewer [email protected]

    3. Hello Browning list, My name is Karen Fieldstad. I live with my husband Kim and our two beloved children, a schnauzer named Fred and a tabby cat named Putty-tat in Fayetteville, Georgia. Like Tom Evans and Jere Cox I descend from WILLIAM BROWNING and Elizabeth Thompson of Barren County KENTUCKY via their son Joseph and his daughter Susan. Susan married John White so that is the end of my Browning connection. Susan and John's son Thomas White moved on to Mississippi and then to Alabama which is where I eventually came into the picture. I've been doing genealogy for about two or three years. I don't think I could quit if I wanted to, at least not for long. Happy Hunting fellow list mates Karen

    2. Patricia L Strickler
    3. Hello list members searching Ohio records for marriage information: This comes from the April 2000 Mahoning County Chapter of the OGS newsletter: "Introduced into the Ohio House of Rep. is a bill to amend the Ohio Revised code that should have genealogists up in arms. 'It states, in part, that upon receiving a request for records pertaining to the issuance of marriage licenses, a probate court shall furnish copies of the records as provided under section 149.43 of the Ohio Revised code, except that the court shall delete or otherwise remove any social security numbers and the maiden names of the mothers of the parties to a marriage so that they are not available to the person requesting the records, except for use by the department of human services, law enforcement personnel, and if ordered by the court in a civil or criminal trial.' If any individual genealogist feels that this would impact their ability to do genealogical research, a letter voicing your concern would be in order here. The address is: The Honorable____, Ohio Representatives, 77 South High St., Columbus, Ohio 43266-0603. Or www.house.state.oh.us/voice/index. html. Representative Ron Hood from Canfield is a co-sponsor of this bill." Pass this on to any other lists you are subscribed to if you think others might also be seeking marriage information in Ohio records. Barbara Faig Tennessee
