Lula Reed Boss of Maysville, KY originally compiled these records. She donated a copy to the BROWNING file in the Mason Co Museum Library. When I was at the library the last week of March I obtained a xerox of her Browning compilation. The write up was neither dated nor copyrighted. I do not know if Lula Reed Boss is still living. Regardless, I thank her for donating this to file where other researchers could be helped along the way. I have taken the liberty of rearranging the wills, court orders and deeds into roughly chronological order. It's just easier for me if the dates aren't all jumbled up. :) Deed Book J Page 12 March 27, 1806 Thomas Marshall and Fanny his wife, of Mason county .. to... Hi Pat, I have a bunch on Thomas, but not much on Edmond or Jeremiah. I think those three were from VA. The other two, Basil and William, were from MD. I may be mistaken about that though. I have not figured out Mesach or Wesley yet. Yet another early Mason Co., KY marriage of a Browning was: Marriages copied from "Old Marriage Register:" Mary Browning and Thomas Case 12-4-1800. I do not have all of the census records that I'd like to have. One thing that would be particularly helpful is to know how many Brownings were in the Mason/Fleming/Lewis/Bracken area in 180X and 181Xs. Especially near 1808 for Fleming, since that's when John N. Browning seems to have been born. There is a will for a William Browning Sr. (17 Jan 1853 - probated 13 Oct 1855) "nearly Eighty seven years old." His wife, Mary, was still living... posted at http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ky/FlemingWill?read=10 Posted by Charlotte Smith <[email protected]> Children of William Browning Sr.: deceased son James Browning, son Lewis, deceased daughter Dorcus Ware, son Levi, son Benjamin, son William, son Eli, son John, son Vachael, son Amos, daughter Matilda Jones, daughter Margaret Batesman. I can send you a bunch of land records, wills, etc. for the Thomas Browning bunch. For awhile I was trying to connect my John N. Browning up to that bunch of Brownings from VA. I have already posted the Thomas data to the Mason Co., KY list - so it can also be located by searching this year's KYMason list archives for "Browning." On the post concerning the children of Edmund Browning. I don't think that Edmund had any children by Mary Ann Murphey. I don't know if Murphey was her maiden name or whether she, too, had been married previously. All nine of the children mentioned in Edmund's will were adults and three of them, Caleb, Joshua and Elizabeth, were deceased. Those children mentioned in the post as "his other children"---Elijah, Toliver, Henry, Lucy, Molly, and Jenny---were the children of his son Caleb, and later proceedings indicate that they were living in Clark Co., KY. I have also seen it suggested that Edmund had a tenth child named Delila who was married to James Boren. James Boren's mother may have been Susannah Teague who first married Joseph Boren and then married John Browning, Edmund's brother. This is where the grandchild Nancy Bowin/Boren mentioned in Edmund's will fits in. The one thing that makes me doubt that Delila was Edmund's daughter is that James Boren and his wife, Delila, had seven other children who are not, then, mentioned in Edmund's will. If any one has proof of any children Edmund might have had by Mary Ann Murphey, please post it to the list. Steve Loose
Hi Browning Hunters, I'm looking to connect up with other Browning researchers whose lines moved from MD to Mason & Fleming Co, KY around 1800. Data I've collected so far: No Browning family taxed in Mason Co., KY in the 1790 rolls. Taxed in the year 1800: --------------------------- Basil Browning Fleming Co., KY William Browning Fleming Co. <- *possibly* my line(?) Edmund Browning Mason Co. Jeremiah Browning Mason Co. Thomas Browning Mason Co. Originally I *thought* my John Browning was John Henry Browning, but all of the records I have found him on so far show him as John N. Browning. JOHN N. BROWNING (b. 1808 in KY and d. aft. June 1871) consistently lists his place of birth as KY and his third marriage record (in 1871) lists him as born in Fleming Co., KY and his parents born in MD. So, I think the John N. Browning who married first to Catherine Bramel is not the John Henry Browning born in VA. This John N. Browning married three times. All marriages are recorded in Mason Co., KY: 1) Catherine Bramel on March 31, 1829 (I have more on their children.) 2) Frances (Willett) Cooper on June 23, 1863 - they undoubtedly divorced because she is still alive when he remarries again, this was the second marriage for both of them. 3) Catherine (?) Applegate on June 15, 1871, her second marriage and his third I believe that John N. & Catherine (Bramel) Browning moved to Indiana and lived for awhile in the 1840's. They returned to Mason Co., KY and are enumerated on the 1850 and 1860 census there. Their son, William Fendal Browning b. March 06, 1843, frequently lists IN as his place of birth. Does any of this fit or match with anything that you have collected at this moment in your research? Is anyone else hunting Brownings in northern KY about 1800 that came from MD? Best Regards, Kathy in MN
Hi list! Doesn't anyone have Jemima Browning? She married Joseph Medley in Belmont County, Ohio 1821 possible children ELISHA,Sarah, Susan, Rebecca, and Elias. Can't find any death for her, and she is not mentioned in Joseph's will? 1836. Browning might be from a previous marriage? John D. Ledrich [email protected]

Greetings and Salutations! I am new to this list only having discovered yesterday the surname of whom I believe to be my ggggrandmother as Nancy P. BROWNING. I found her last name out by looking at the North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868 on www.ancestry.com and there it was. I am tracing backwards from Forsyth County, Georgia to Casewell County, NC. By reading the BROWNING Queries Board I discovered the information printed below. I wrote to the people who sent in the information only to find their email addresses are no longer valid. I am posting it in an edited version in hopes I can connect with anyone researching or with information on either this MARTIN or BROWNING family. Thank you very much.
