Still looking for the family of my ggrandmother, Sarah Elizabeth ("Lizzie") Browning. She married Charles Robert ("Charlie") Salmon abt. 1881 in GA, and was living in Floyd County, Georgia in the early 1900s. Suspect she was born in Tennessee. She and Charlie are buried at Silver Creek (Floyd Co.), Georgia. Children of this couple: Edward Washington Salmon, Wm. Isaac M. Salmon, Annie Ethel Irene Salmon, Maude Frances Jeretta Salmon, Augusta Salmon, John L. McKinley Salmon, and Millard Trammell Salmon. Linda Avery ([email protected])
I have recently joined this list and I am from England most of you seem to be from America and so far I haven't seen anything around my neck of the woods.but as there are so many browning's there must be one of mine strayed over the big pond. henry Browning married Elizabeth litter by licence 1691 ,he was a miller from Henfield she was from petworth, some of their descendants live in henfield still.my decent Henry + Elizabeth litter 1691/ Thomas and Rachel /henry + Ann horley 1775/ Thomas + Frances /henry + Sarah shoulder nee mills 1830 /Sarah + Thomas Willard 1870 she was my great grandmother and she died in 1921. henry and Ann had 3 sons and a prodigious number of living children who grew up and married and had large living families of there own he had 33 grandchildren and I have found 134 great grandchildren.Thomas had over 100 living descendants when he died in 1874 ,only a few still in Henfield.as he was a poor man we can only attribute his rather grand memorial to everyone chipping in a little and ending with a lot. my first Henry Has been a trail for the last 10 years I have sought him in vain all the Henry's around at his time [and there are a number] have all married somewhere else or died .so far every turning has been a dead end. I do not give up hope ,somewhere out there is that small piece of evidence of his origins .I just have to look in the right place, which is after all what all good detectives have to do. If you find your origins are in Sussex I will look through my information for you I do have info on some other Brownings I turned up in my searches which may be of use to someone else. Hi Yvonne, Did the "BROWNING Quarterly" file of Thomas and Hester BROWNING ever materialize? If so, I missed it. Would you or someone on the list please send me a copy. My BROWNINGs (Granville, Augustus William and Braxton) are real problems and I certainly don't want to miss anything. Hello, We are new to this list, and are doing research on the BROWNING family of the Pocahontas, Va. area, James S. BROWNING, (1854-1928) and his father Jesse BROWNING, in particular. If anyone has info about this family, would be glad to share what we have with them. Thanks! Dianne Terrell

Having seen references to the will of Joshua Browning probated in Bourbon Co in 1814, I searched for it at the KY Archives in Frankfort and found that Joshua died intestate. There are, however, documents pertaining to the administration of Joshua's estate. Court Order Book E, p355-356 December Court 1814 (5 Dec 1814) "Administration of the Estate of Joshua Browning deceased is granted to James Browning who made oath thereto and together with William Redman and Abraham Moore his securities executed and acknowledged bond in the penalty of three hundred dollars conditioned as the law directs. Certificate is granted." p356 Appraisers appointed: James Moore, Jacky S. Hitt (or Hito), John Moore and John Diniwiddie. Other documents pertaining to Joshua's estate, which I did not have time to look at, include: Will Book E: Sale p200, Inv p250; Est Sch A Set p70 Order Book E: Sales p360, Sett p498, Sett p507 Jane Browning Groth San Antonio, TX
I Second the motion... please (either of you) send me the same info... I am still confused as to which lineage to beleive (Capt John Browning or Thomas/Hester) and ANY real documentation to sway me would be greatly appreciated. I was in Culpeper this spring in hopes of finding some new info to sort the mystery and found nothing to sway me one way or the other...my line (assuming the Thomas/Hester lineage is true) is: or (assuming the Capt John Browning is true):\ Thomas Browning & Hester? or Capt John Browning &? John Browning & Elisabeth? William Browning &? Francis Browning & Rachel Merritt John Browning & Elisabeth? --------------------- John Browning Jr & Rosamond Burger (now they join) Francis Browning & Elisabeth Lloyd Francis Browning Jr & Frances Norman William Browning & Mildred Roberts Charles Browning & Catherine Hines George Browning & Mildred Botts James Browning & Martha Moore my grand-parents my parents ME Any help in providing info to resolve this "mystery" in the "Francis Browning" chain would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks, Tom Browning

Ulysses S. Grant Browning was born March, 1865, to Jeremiah Browning and Malinda Perrin. Married March 20, 1889 at Blue's Gap, Bedford County, PA to Elizabeth Trail. They had at least six children. Only three sons are known however: Albert R.,b. 1890, Ernest G., b. 1891, Howard F.,b. 1893. Though not matching the dates in your query, this family was known to have moved repeatedly back and forth between Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia (inc. W.VA). Flintstone Creek was evidently the family homeplace at the time of Jeremiah's birth. This information is from the Hurley Browning Book published by Heritage Books. Hope something helps. Regarding Caleb Browning, I have two: Caleb, born c. 1750, son of Edmund Browning and first wife (unknown); one of six children of that marriage, he married Alice Grigsby abt. 1767, and died in Farquier Co., VA in 1786. Caleb had a sister named Elizabeth born c. 1766, and married (a cousin?) George Browning, son of Jacob Browning and Elizabeth Bywaters. Their fifth child and only son was named Caleb. Do any of these help? Mitzi Hammond Perkins

Hello List, I am wondering if Ken of Indiana knows of a private cemetery near the OH State line. My father Harold (Pratt?) Browning is supposed to be buried somewhere there. He died, when I was eight yrs old, in Oklahoma and his family had the body shipped north for burial. They were from the Toledo area. I have tried to get death cert. from OK, without success so far. He was born in Mich., but I don't know what city, still working on that. He died in 1951. Any info would be appreciated. Paula

Hi David, In your e-mail you did not put the name of your great Grandfather. You requested some "help tips". If you go to the "home page" of RootsWeb.com, scroll down to "Roots Web's Guide To Tracing Family Trees". Click on "Index To Lessons". There are 30 lessons here. It would be worth your time to scan over all of these. This will give you something to do while you are waiting for the "list" to kick-in, and start sending you some information. RootsWeb is a great place to start. The have several Gedcom's ( that is complete family trees). I am fairly new to the "list" also. I have spent the last 3 years searching my wife's (HUMKE)side of the family. I have printed out several emails from the Browning list though. I know there are several Browning's from Kentucky amoungst them. I sort through them and help you out all I can. I am in the midst of re-modeling our house so I do not have much time to spend on my genealogy. I will do what I can though. Now that you have "posted" your family, I am very sure the rest of the "list", who are much better qualified to supply you with faster information, will start replying to you. I would suggest when you reply to these e-mails, that you select the "Reply All". That way the rest of us can read it too, and be better able to help you out.
