    3. I am not to sure just where to start on my grandfather, I was told many things about him, but that was from my mother, none of my uncles' or dad would not tell me much of anything, but from all the bits and pieces I do have I start the search then hit another brick wall. So I will start with what I have tracked and what I think but can't prove. 1- I was told that his mother was very sick, he had a brother, and his mother gave them away, but did not say to whom. She later got better and tried to get her boys back but was unable to. 2- I was also told the people were very mean so William ran away. Joined the Circus they took care of him until he met my grandmother. 3- I have Copy of Bible records sent Nov. 24, 1955 by Aurther S Bryant Received death certificate, from Bakersfield, Kern County- CA. 1955 States birth as 03 Nov 1868 Indiana mother unk, father unk Wife Edith Margaret. 4 I went back over my search records in part, below is what started my search on the "Orphan Train" The woman Sharon Craig, in charge of the train information from Indiana was nice enough to give me the addresses' to the NY & Boston place of records of children sent out from both places. I wrote them and nether of them has no records. This was the only William Henry Brown found at this time until 1880 when I found him with the Bryants' 1880 Census Jay County, Indiana Richland Twp. Thomas F Bryant age 50 b NH Catherine age 25 b Indiana Rowel Otis age 1 b Jay County Indiana William Henry Brown age 9 (Thomas took to raise) This making him born in 1871, and the strange thing is that Thomas Bryant Married Catherine Found Marriage in Randolph County, Indiana. I have tracked back on Thomas and his family looking for A sister that married a Brown, so far nothing there. Now Catherine's parents her father was named Henry, one of Her brothers' was William, and in 1870 she was 16, in 1871 She married Thomas and I think William was maybe her son and Thomas took him to raise, I think he took both Catherine and William off the Orphan Train, Sharon said William was taken off in 1871. So this is where I am, I am waiting on information from the Circus, They stayed in the town Thomas died in 1901 for the wenter. I don't think they will have anything but I am checking all leads. Thank you for any help, leads, or ideas. Where? Where did Byrant live? What states do you think he may have come from besides IN....When you check the census records for Bryant, always check to see who his neighbors were too as often families lived next door to each other. I have many William Henry Browns in my file..but none that close in age. I have a Nancy Bryant who married a James Brown but that was in 1803 in MA.. 3. Hi Eleanor, If you look at the 1870 Census again William Henry Brown is with Pleasant Stanley. I found him in 1880 and 1885 with Pleasant Stanley also. 1870 Census: Toledo, Tama, Iowa Pleasant Stanley age 55 [1815] Farmer b Virginia Sarah J Stanley age 52 b Indiana Aleisia Stanley age 21 b Illinois Avrilla E Stanley age 16 b Illinois William H Brown age 2 [1868] b New York Rebecca H Tracy age 33 b Illinois Minnie O Tracy age 2 b Iowa 1880 Census: Toledo, Tama, Iowa; SD 2, ED 290, Page 9 Pleasant Stanley age 65 [1815] Farmer b Virginia Sarah J Stanley age 62 b Indiana William H Brown age 12 [1868] adopted son b New York, Parents b New York, New York 1885 Iowa State Census: Toledo, Tama, Iowa Pleasant Stanley age 69 [1816] Farmer b Virginia Sarah J Stanley age 64 b Indiana William H Brown age 17 [1868] b New York Looks like he was first raised by the Stanleys. I can send these census images to you. I found some great suggestions for researching the orphan trains at http://iagenweb.org/iaorphans/ and http://www.orphantrainriders.com/. 3. Looks like he was first raised by the Stanleys. I can send these census images to you. I want to thank you very much for tracking this family down, when I found this census William was the first one listed and I wondered then why. (nothing above him) That closed the door on that William Henry Brown, even though he was Born in 1868 just like mine, my William Henry Brown took the name of Bryant Sometime after the 1880 census, (living with the Bryant's) in 1900 he was living next door to Catherine Bryant and her children (4) but no Thomas F Bryant, later found his death (Thomas) in 1901, I don't have any history on them but William was married to Edith M (Clawson) Bryant and had 2nd son Glen Otis Cretis Bryant b 31 July 1897 first son died at birth. They had some of the most awful names I have ever heard given to their boys. 8 children, 1 girl died young in California. (Hit by a car) I will use the link you sent and see what I can find there, I wonder why the information you just sent on William Henry Brown was not on record with the Orphan Train Riders? That should have been on record with the Stanley's adopting him. Hemmmmmm. Again I want to thank you very much for helping me shut another door.
