Kathie, You are very kind to respond. The reason I didn't give his first name is because that's what we're trying to find out. I have scoured these Family Tree Maker CDs on which one can sort them by female or by male, but did not come up with a match. Marriage Index: IL, IN, KY, OH, TN, 1720 - 1926 CD#2 Marriage Index: Ohio 1789 0 1850 CD#400 This Rachel's 2nd husband was Godfrey Augustus Speck in 1819 in Belmont County, but subsequently lived at the SPECK home in Tuscarawas County. Any four of those counties listed were familiar territory to both of them. It is the same with the surnames listed with Rachel's name. She was first a Pickering, The three names beginning with H were common spellings (mis-spellings) of that name (her first marriage). This "Rachel Brown" is thought to be the second wife of G. A. Speck (his first wife was Sarah Townsend). Sarah died in 1815. Godfrey, Sarah and Rachel Brown were buried near each other in what we call the Boone Sears Cemetery in Freeport Township, Harrison County, Ohio. Our old 1900 family history tells that this Rachel Brown was buried by my fourth great Grandmother, Sarah, and we think she is Godfrey's second wife. The old history says Rachel Brown "lies south from Grandmother's side." We have spent a few years looking for Mr. Brown, in all the 'normal' ways to find him, so now, we're more or less depending on personal family genealogy files. Thanks for responding, Kathie. Hi Darlene, This is what I found at a LDS site - 1. Rachel Pickering married Godfrey Augustus Speck 30 December 1819, Belmont Co., Ohio. Rachel b. 4 Oct 1770, Hopewell, Frederick, Virginia. Godfrey B. 1754 Dresden, Saxony, Germany, D. 24 Dec 1828, Westchester, Tuscarawas, Ohio. No parents of either Rachel or Godfrey are given. 2. Rachel Horseman married Augustus Speck same date.... with maybe parents of William Hosman and Rachel 3. Rachel Speck Hosman, B. 23 Oct 1829, Kenton, Harden, Ohio, D. 9 Feb 1842 - parents Isaac & Mary Young Hosman - it appears that Isaac is a brother to the Rachel above (in #2) 4. I tried any Rachel to any Brown in those counties A. Rachel Robinson md Enoch Brown, 2 Aug 1866, Washington Co., Ohio B. Rachel Spencer md. Aron Brown, 1841, Springfield, Hamilton, Ohio C. I'm looking for information regarding Isom Payne Brown's father, Samuel Brown. Samuel Brown is thought to have been born in Ohio or Indiana & to have died around 1831. Anyone with details that may relate to my Samuel, please contact me. Regards, Jim Brown Minneapolis, MN
Have you tried www.ancestorsatrest.com? I put Samuel Brown died 1831 OH or IN and a Samuel with a Rachel came up.
