My brick wall is Elisha K. Brown b. abt 1819 in Tennessee, Missouri or North Carolina. I have been looking for the names and birth dates of his father and mother without any success for years. Here is the information I do have: In 1839, Elisha married Emily Sanford b. 8 Mar 1824. In the 1850 US Federal Census (McNairy) and 1860 US Federal Census (Madison, TN), Emily and Elisha have the following children: Sarah Brown b. abt 1843 in Tennessee, USA;Mary Brown b. abt 1844 in Tennessee, USA;John Brown b. abt 1845 in Tennessee, USA;Henry Brown b. abt 1846 in Tennessee, USA;Josiah Brown b. abt 1847 in Tennessee, USA;James Brown b. abt 1848 in Tennessee, USA;Thomas Balaam Brown b. abt 1849 in Tennessee, USA;William Jasper Brown b. 15 Dec 1850 in Tennessee, USA;Elisha Brown b. abt 1853 in Tennessee, USA;George Brown b. abt 1854 in Tennessee, USA;Elizabeth Brown b. abt 1855 in Tennessee, USA; and Robert Brown b. abt 1858 in Tennessee, USA. Elisha and Emily had one more child: Charlie b. abt 1861 in Tennessee, USA. Emily must have died sometime between 1861 and 1870. In the 1870 US Federal Census (Madison, TN), she is no longer listed with Elisha and his family. Elisha married Martha Ann Kilpatrick on 29 Jan 1873. In the 1880 US Federal Census (Madison, TN), Elisha and Martha have three children living with them: George b. abt 1857 in Tennessee, USA;Charlie b. abt 1861 in Tennessee, USA; andLorenza b. abt 1876 in Tennessee, USA. Since Elisha and Martha weren't married in 1861, George and Charlie are Emily's children. I believe Emily's parents were John Sanford b. 1788 and Lucy Newsom b. 1793. If anything about Elisha or Emily sounds familiar to you - perhaps, you have a Brown ancester who might be a brother/sister, cousin, or uncle/aunt - I would love to hear from you.
