Hi Ken, I am a little behind in these e-mails because of Christmas and lobbying our Canadian Government last week in Ottawa because of Agent Orange & other chemicals. I know I owe a few of you a reply and I will as soon as possible. I have a few questions. 1. My brother submitted his DNA to the Brown DNA study through FTDna as I stated before. We were sprayed with Agent Orange Purple and White at CFB Gagetown NB Canada 56-84. It can change your DNA. I have been told this could make a difference in us getting a match. We have not had any matches and we joined at the beginning. I know others do not have matches as well. So does anyone recommend me getting another Brown male to submit and if so what level of testing. Right now we have done a 12 and 25 but looks like a 67 might be better or should we wait until we get a 25 step match. 2. Ken would you say the name John Ebenezer Brown could be Irish? I am thinking Scottish or English? How about the first name Aaron? I have used the naming patterns for all 3 countries without any luck. Ken I knew about the Lamonts but not the McGregor's. Wonder if there are other names change like these ones? Speaking for myself I cannot get back further than 1822 NY state but have a huge amount of information after that date. I can not find anything to help me go further back. 3. You are correct that a lot of the Irish records were blown up in Dublin. Supposedly according to my ggrandfather that is where we came from but I have no proof and basically whatever else he did say I have proven wrong. 4. I have been searching my Brown line for 23 years. John Ebenezer Brown was according to census born in New York State. Has anyone heard of a person using the place where they emigrated to such as NY for their place of birth. One person told me a few years ago that was the case? 5. I use Ancestry.com Deluxe and have for a long time and rootsweb. Can anyone recommend a good place to research for people who were born in New York State? I live in NB Canada so it has to be done on line. Thank you to everyone for all there opinons and help..greatly appreciated. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I have an Irish line, Lyons, who seem to have listed both Ireland and NY as their birth places depending on which document you are looking at. There are so many John and Mary Lyons that I'm not yet sure I have one couple and not two different ones, but your question about this possibly happening in your line gives me one more reason to belive that is what happened with my Lyons couple. I have several lines that seem to change places of birth from census to census yet are the same people. Occassionally there was a stigma about the country they were born in or the fact that they weren't born American. Accurate birth places and dates didn't seem to be set in stone. Also divorced women often said they were widowed.
