    1. [BROWN] Brown DNA Project Passes 500!
    2. Hello to all Brown researchers! The Brown/Browne/Braun DNA Study is a non-profit, volunteer activity whose main goals are (a) to support one another in applying DNA analysis to the genealogies of various Brown families, and (b) to encourage more DNA testing by Brown-surnamed men. The project is now slightly more than seven years old, having begun with a test by our founder, Rufus B. "Byron" Brown, on November 11, 2001. And we transition into our eighth year, I'm pleased to announce that we have just passed the "five-century" mark, with 505 sets of DNA results now available! Project statistics are as follow: 1. About 66% of participants (334 men) have what appear to be significant matches with other project members. 2. These matched participants fall into 96 relationship groups. 3. Another 34% (171 participants) are still awaiting their first matches with other project members. 4. These numbers indicate that we've identified more than 260 biologically distinct family lines carrying the Brown surname or a variant (Browne, Braun, Browning, Brownlee, Brune, Brunet, Bruijn, etc.). For our matched participants, DNA results are shown on this page: http://brownsociety.org/browndna/groupresults.html And those men without current matches are listed here on our "unique haplotypes" page: http://www.brownsociety.org/browndna/unique.html Please note that a DNA test for tracing your Brown ancestry requires a DNA sample from a Brown-surnamed male. But women are very active in the Brown DNA Study by way of sponsoring tests for their male family members. If you're interested in a DNA test for yourself or a member of your Brown family, please contact me off-list via direct Email to DNAforBrowns@aol.com. Then I'll be more than happy to give full details on costs and testing procedures. Best regards, Jim Brown (James Armistead Brown, Jr.) Volunteer Project Administrator Brown/Browne/Braun DNA Study DNAforBrowns@aol.com
