Does anyone have any information regarding a James BROWN who moved from Guilford or Randolph Co., NC, to Wilson Co., TN, by 1817? In 1815, his son Stephen BROWN married a Polly CRANFORD in Wilson Co. In 1817, his daughter Jaley Ann BROWN married Elijah or Abijah RICE in Wilson Co. By 1820, James and son Stephen (and possibly other children) were in Lawrence Co., TN. By 1830, sons Stephen and Leonard were in Lauderdale Co., AL. This BROWN family was originally from VA (as Stephen was born there). It is also probable that James BROWN's wife was Native American. Her name has been passed down to us as WATHACAPEE. Stephen's family moved from Lauderdale Co., AL, to Wayne Co., TN, then on to Searcy and Izard Cos., ARK, and then on to Travis Co., TX.
