    3. We have an Indian name in my husbands line that is some what close WATCHEKEE this is written in several articles as Wat-che-kee and also as Watch-e-kee. There has been a lot on how to pronounce this name. This woman was Potawatomi. Was in the Ill area and moved to IOWA< KANSAS and Okla. other spellings were used as Waatchki, Watchchikke, Watchki, Watchi, We have found a lot of argument on spellings and so forth as with one record of this case you have a dutch priest, listening to an Indian woman and a french man and writeing records in English. Makes life interesting as you are looking thru the records. We have the name Bergeron that is found as Beaucheron (written by the Dutch priest) Then this name changed to Bezhaw also spelled Bazhaw and it is spelled like this for several families that come from the same lineage today and others still use the Bergeron spelling but it is the same family. sometimes knowing who would have wirtten the record helps but most of the time you are just confused. Just remember none of these spelling are written in stone and copy everything! :) You can also find an Indian name and a White mans name in some cases. IF you have found someone on a roll then you may be in luck as you can get records from the tribes..The number they were given opens the doors! I was so surprised with how much I got and it answered a lot about not only the Indian line but ones that were married into it. There are a lot of sites on line that may be able to help you. Try searching on the tribe or just Indian info good luck with your search! Val >From: "Powers, W.
