In my voluminous files on Evinger ancestry, there are various papers showing David Brown was bron in Warren Co, IN. He married Elizabeth Evinger, daughter of Rev. Henry Evinger and wife Elizabeth _?_. In The Bishops Church of the United Brethren in Christ by Paul Rodes Koontz and Walter Edwin Roush, Volume I by P. R. Koontz, 1950; The Otter- bein Press, Dayton, Ohio [pages 201 & 208;] it says ...Michael Brown, migrated from Alsace to America, and settled in the beautiful Tulpehocken valley of eastern Pennsylvania. Here [Philip Wm] Otterbein was pastor of the German Reformed congregation from 1758 to 1760. Michael Brown and his wife were among the first to respond to [Otterbeins] evangel- ical preaching. Five sons and three daughters with the parents constituted the Brown family. One of the sons was Peter, father of Bishop William Brown ... His sons were John, Simon, David, and Wil- liam. ...David Brown married the daughter of Henry Evinger, a charter member of the Miami Confer- ence. Their daughter married [ca26 June 1864 in IN to] Rev. O. Hadley... and their second child was Mahala, born 20 Oct 1838 in Warren Co, IN. The Hadleys were missionaries in Sierre Leone, Africa. At least Mahala served there from 1866-69 and 1871-74. A photo taken ca1867 of David and Elizabeth Brown with granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Hadley, along with one [taken ca1870?] of Mahala Brown Hadley are in my files -- sent to me in March 1987 by Mrs Jane E Mason, then Archivist of the United Brethren Archives - Church of the United Brethren in Christ, 302 Lake Street, Huntington, IN 46750, phone 219-356-2312. Mrs Mason also sent obits for Elizabeth [Mrs Hen- ry] Evinger, their daughter Elizabeth Evinger Brown, and latters daughter Mahala Brown Hadley Bridge- man. Although Mrs Mason didnt send me more data on David and Elizabeth Browns family, she said they did have more on descendants of Mary Elizabeth.
