We know he was in SC according to Goodspeed's Dickson County account. Are you certain we are talking about the same John? 1770 NC?? Well, Martha Patsey GILBERT-BROWN was born in about May, 1769, in Georgia. I would imagine MY John to be born circa 1767 in NC or "possbly" Wales. If the latter was the case, he may have declared a particular state instead of Wales, for fear of being "found out." Many scenarios are developing in my mind. My personal family tradition states that he came from NC, thence to GA, thence to Middle Tennessee circa 1805. He may have been in Elbert County, GA, but was in Franklin County GA 1790 Fed Census, along with Charles and Thomas GILBERT. John Andrew BROWN and Family pulled up stakes as the Georgian farmland began to "play out", according to my grandma, Evalena LUTHER-BROWN and my cousin, Emmett Loye BROWN, who passed away in 1993. He is interred in the BROWN CEMETERY on I-40 and Old Spencer Mill Road. This tradition has been passed along, as time lines also show my LUTHER Line reached DC in 1823, HARRINGTON Family in 1809 (Hickman Co., TN) and BAKER Family from KY to TN in 1867. These are my beginning lines, paternal and maternal. This is more than a serious hobby to me. I am determined to get some substantive answers to this quest, and welcome your help. I want to be careful to broadcast whether a certain tidbit or date or locale is absolutely correct. There are times when I report another's findings....I just want this to be accurate as possible......... Thanks. Can you send YOUR BROWN Line? Mine is Caleb Daniel, Michael David, Orville Matthew, Andrew "Jackson", Andrew Jackson "Jack", John Squire, and John Andrew BROWN. Spouses: (Mine):Donna Lynn McCRAY, Nellie "Dimple" HARRINGTON, Evalena LUTHER, Rebecca Catherine LADD, Margaret "Peggy" LAWS, and Martha "Patsey" GILBERT. John Squire BROWN also was married to "another" Peggy....Margaret "Peggy" LUTHER on 3DEC1848-Dickson Co, TN. Please write me and tell me your thoughts and designs (ideas) whereby we can effectively locate our ancestors. I think you already sent the aforementioned material, but like a Venn diagram, let's pool our resources and achieve eventual victory in our mutual endeavor. Regards, Michael in CA. Since John, Sr. died in 1850, I want to find the Federal Mortality List for him, to zero in on his EXACT year of birth. I am not totally sure which came from Wales,,,,maybe it was his father. Many thanks for your help and linkage info to our BROWN Line. Have a wonderful trip!!!! 1. John Jacob (Jake) Brown 1878-1925 2. Henry Brown 1840-1880 3. Gilbert A. Brown 1818-1848 4. John Brown ?-1845 1. Am sure that John Jacob was son of Henry from personal info by descendants who knew JJ. 2. Henry was found dead "under a tree"; had no will. 3. Will of Gilbert names wife Patsy (also listed as Martha in other sources) and "three children" (no given names). His children were Henry, George, and Ann. Apparently Gilbert died of a health problem of which he was aware. He states in the will: "being weak in body but in my perfect senses, knowing that all men must die...." 4. Will of John in Warren Co Will Book 1-3 Volume 1 names wife Elizabeth; sons Gil bert. Carroll, & Andrew J. One statement in the will is that his son Andrew J. is to have the bedstead that his mother had, indicating that he must have had another wife who was mother of at least Gilbert before Elizabeth. He also mentions a son John and his "old mother." Does anyone know where this line might fit into a family group before late 1700s or early 1800s? Cecile Harrell
