August term 1819 Bill of sale proven in open court for sale of 13 year old slave named Stephen by William Brown to Zebedee Wood (15th day of July 1807). Witnesses Isaac Lane and John Lane (Zebedee's daughter Mary married Isaac Lane) There was a deed in 1821 from a William and Mary Moffitt to a Harmon Cox that was witnessed by Nathan Cox and Daniel Brown. Court of Pleas Nov Term 1828: Ordered by the court ......(3 words not readable) Brown to next court the following children of Joshua Brown deceased to wit Hardy, William, Sally, Joshua, to be dealt with as the court may direct. Deed 3rd day of Nov. 1830 between Joseph Brown and Hardy Brown to sell all his interest in a tract of land being in the town of Ashboro. It was witnessed by H. Moffitt and Robert S. Moffitt Deed in 1838 between James Elliot and Hardy Brown beginning at Jesse Conner or Craven's corner on Buffalo Ford.....to Hoover's corner. The witness's name is almost unreadable, looks like J B G somebody Will of Joseph Holmes? Brown 1840 (in the typed transcription of this will that someone had done it shows his middle name as Holmes, but for the life of me, it does not look like Holmes. To me it looks like a Wm.) I Joseph H---- Brown of the county of Randolph .......I bequeath to my brother Hardy Brown in consideration of his affectionate kindness and attention to me my Negro boy slave Harry and also the house or shed which is attached to his shop in Ashboro and the ground upon which it is built and further give to him two-thirds of the residue of my Estate. I give to the children of my sister Sarah Elliott, wife of James Elliot, viz Benjamin Porter, William Penn, and Joseph Milton the residue of my estate say one-third after debts to be divided equally between them. I give to my nephew Benjamin P. Elliot son of James Elliot, my gold watch and all my books, atlas, and maps. I appoint James Elliot my executor. Duly proven in court Aug term 1841. Witnesses H. B. Elliot and Alfred H. Marsh. Will of Joseph H. Brown 1867 I, Joseph H. Brown of the county of Randolph, .......I bequeath to my father Hardy Brown one-third of my estate, consisting of notes, accounts and fees due me in the County Court Clerks Office and to him and his heirs to have and to hold forever. I bequeath to my sister Sarah Ella Brown, a minor, the remaining two-thirds of my estate. I hereby appoint my Brother Wm A. Brown guardian to ________ comfort and maintain, see to her education. I hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friend Benjamin Moffitt my executor. Proved in open court Aug term 1867 by J. M. Hancock and Benjamin Moffitt. Witnesses J M. Hancock and Benjamin Moffitt. Deed 21st of the 9th month 1811 between John Brown of Randolph Co. and Caleb White. $300 tract of land on the waters of ______containing 200 acres. Proven in open court by Jesse Vestal. Witnesses Joseph Tomlinson and Jesse Tomlinson. This last one on the Brown's, I did not get home with the uppermost part of the page. I had zoomed in to try and make them more readable and some of them took two pages to copy the entire thing, and somehow I either didn't get the top part or lost it. ........... Sheriff of the County on this 21st day of April 1819 attended by Will or Wm Chamness, Francis Reynolds, Joseph Lamb, Isaac Wilson, Isaac Beason, Roddy Doak, Wm Peterson, Joseph Allred, John Wood, --------with Mary Brown widow of Samuel or Daniel Brown (the first name is written so slanted, can't be sure if it is Daniel or Samuel) deceased._______tract lying on the waters of Pole Cat Creek containing 109 acres _______required to allot and _____ it off to said Mary Brown one third part of the aforesaid plantation------of the Creek on Cox line containing 36 1/3 acres including the dwelling or mansion of said Samuel or Daniel Brown.
