I don't have personal knowledge of your BROWN family, but your Leonard Sandford BROWN (b. 1837) was at a wonderful age to find his family! Starting in 1850 (when he would have been about 13) the Federal Census Records start to list the complete family by name, age, and state of birth; so he should be listed in a BROWN family household in KY in the 1850 Federal Census which exists. I would go through an Index of Heads of Households of BROWN and SANDFORD families in KY in the 1850 Federal Census and see where they appeared together in the same county. They you will have to search each of the BROWN families to locate him. Start near those counties that are near Clark Co., IN. I did a quick check, and found SANDFORD families indexed in 1850 in Kenton, Boone, Jefferson, Owen, and Henry Counties of KY near the river and across from Clark Co., IN. Keep in mind that he will NOT be indexed in the 1850 Federal Census as only the Heads of Households are indexed! Good hunting.
