    3. Hi Shirley, I'm working on Browns in MS & AL. My great grandfather Newton Raymond Brown was born somewhere is MS in March of 1846. He was married to Elizabeth "Lizzie" Barnes in Limestone County on June 19, 1870 and he lived the rest of his life there. Their children were Paralee, Matthew Spears "Mack" (my grandfather), Delba "Del", Nannie, Ollie, Nina, Maggie, and Bertha. I don't know where in MS Newton was born but have been told it was either Tupelo or Iuka and I don't know if either one is correct or not. Newton served the Confederacy in the Civil War and is said to have fought at Shiloh. He had a metal plate in his head as a result of a wound during the war. I looked at every Brown household in the 1850 census(when Newton would have been 4 years old) and I could not find him. I suspect his family must have already moved to somewhere in Alabama at this time. There is a Newton Brown in Lauderdale County (adjoining county to Limestone) that's the correct age living with his father Elija. I think this might be the right family but I'm not sure. I would like to find out (and prove) who Newton's parents were. Thanks, Mike Chapman
