Griffith Gartin (Garton), son of Elijah and Frances & stepson of John Brown, m. Hannah Miller 18Sept1785 in Greenbrier Co., VA at the Linville Creek Church. They then resided in Monroe Co., VA. One son, Hugh GARTIN, m. Rachel Shumate 20Jun1809, Milbourn, Monroe Co., VA. Another son, James K. Garton, m. Amelia "Milly" Shumate 15Jun1824, Monroe Co., VA. Two other brothers married CARPERs, two married GREENs, two married HINCHMAs, others married a WILLIAMS, SWINNEY, CALLOWAY and PETERS. There was a Matilda SHREVE somewhere, but can't find her at the moment. She may have entered the line for one of Griffith's brothers. You don't say where or when, so I'm not sure if we are in the same area and talking about the same families or not. Gail
