I am seeking information about my g-g-grandfather, William T. BROWN and his family. While I have found quite a bit of information about him after 1850, I haven't been able to locate him in Kentucky. I also have no clue about the maiden name of his wife. Seven of the nine children born to William and his wife remain a mystery. I offer the following information about my BROWN line. I apologize for the length but perhaps someone will find a connection or something useful. I would appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thanks, Lonna Jean (Idaho) William T. BROWN was born 26 August 1817 somewhere in Kentucky, and died 09 February 1899 in Couch, Oregon Co., Missouri. He married Lear F. ? before 1843 in Kentucky. She was born in 1822 somewhere in Kentucky, and died after 1880 probably in Couch, Oregon Co., Missouri. The William T. BROWN family left Kentucky about 1849. Three of their nine children were born in Kentucky on or before September 1848. I first find them in the 1850 Lawrence Co., Tennessee Census (La-530723). Brown, William J., 32; Leah 27; Mary F., age 6, Jas. K., age 4; Missaring (Misinair), age 2; KY, KY. I do not know how long William and his family remained in Lawrence Co., TN. The remainder of their children were born in Tennessee. They next appear in the 1860 and 1870 Hardin Co., Tennessee Census records. 1860 Hardin Co., TN Census (Hd-2-284) Brown, William T., 42; Lear F., 37; Mary F., 16; James, 14; Missmier (Misinair), 12 (f); Joseph, 9; George W., 6; Archibald, 3; Elizabeth J., 1. 1870 Hardin County, Tennessee Census, 3rd Civil Dist., page 361; household 89; family 86; William age 50, M, W, Farmer, 0/900, KY; Leah, age 47, F, W, Keeping House, KY, SC, KY; Joseph, age 20, M, W, Works on Farm, TN; Missiniah (Misinair), age 21, F. W, KY; George, age 15, M, W, Works on Farm, TN; Archibald, age 14, M, W, Works on Farm, TN; Elizabeth, age 11, F, W, TN; Drury, age 8, M, W, TN; Cornelia, age 3, F, W, TN. Children born to William T. BROWN and Lear F. ? are: 1. Mary F. BROWN, b. 1844, Kentucky. 2. James K. BROWN, b. 1846, Kentucky. 3. Misinair N. BROWN, b. 07 September 1848, Kentucky; d. 04 December 1914, Tabor, Bingham County, Idaho. 4. Joseph BROWN, b. 1851, Tennessee. 5. George W. BROWN, b. April 1854, Tennessee; d. Aft. 1900 AR. 6. Archibald BROWN, b. Abt. 1856, Tennessee. 7. Elizabeth J. BROWN, b. Abt. 1859, Tennessee. 8. Drury M. BROWN, b. Abt. 1862, Hardin Co., Tennessee. 9. Cornelia BROWN, b. Abt. 1867, Hardin Co., Tennessee. My g-grandmother was Misinair N. BROWN. She married John William WHEELER 19 November 1874 in Hardin Co., TN, son of Thomas M. WHEELER and Louisa TYCER. He was born 17 October 1849 in Clifton, Wayne Co., TN, and died 12 Sept. 1934 in Tyhee, Bannock Co., Idaho. George W. BROWN married Sarah E. FOSTER 22 November 1874 in Hardin Co., TN, daughter of Francis FOSTER and Elizabeth MOSER. She was born 07 February 1860 in TN and died 15 July 1938 in Clay Co., Arkansas. George and Sarah obtained a marriage license on the same day that John W. WHEELER and Misinair did. Sometime around 1877-78, William T. BROWN moved to Oregon Co., Missouri. Accompanying William and his wife were two minor children, a son Drury M., and a daughter Cornilia as well as oldest son James K. who was apparently a widower with three minor children. John W. WHEELER, Misinair and an adopted son, Josiah W. AUSTIN also migrated to Dent Co., Missouri about this time. George W. BROWN, his wife Sara and two small daughters migrated to Oregon Co. where they are enumerated in the 1880 Oak Grove Township census record. 1880 Federal Census of Oak Grove Township, Oregon County, Missouri, Wm. Brown, Farmer, 62 KY; wife Lear (born in Kentucky whose father was born in South Carolina and whose mother was born in Kentucky), sons James, KY, and D.M., TN, and daughter Corna, TN; and three grandchildren were listed in this record: Jhon (John) W., a grandson 8 years of age, born in Tennessee; Mary, a granddaughter 5 years of age, born Tennessee; Sara, a granddaughter 3 years of age, born Tennessee. (Note: All three of the grandchildren show their father was born in Kentucky and their mother in Alabama. I surmise these children belong to James who was a widower at that time [LJC].) Missouri Census, Oak Grove Township, enumerated June 1880, BROWN, G.W., M, W, age 26, farm laborer, born TN, parents born KY; Sarah E., F, W, age 20, keeping house, born TN, parents born TN; daughter Viola, F, W, age 4, born TN, parents born TN; daughter Minney, F, W, age 1, born TN, parents born TN. I have no information about Mary F., James K., Archibald, Elizabeth J., Drury M., or Cornelia. Nor do I know what became of the three grandchildren who were listed in William T. BROWNÂ’S home in the 1880 Oregon Co., MO Census. I have found a James BROWN who purchased 40 acres in Oregon Co., MO 28 January 1904. He lived in nearby Shannon Co., MO at the time he bought the land. This property is 4 miles North and 1 mile East of the 83.52-acre homestead William T. BROWN proved in Couch, Oregon Co., MO 5 January 1892.
