    1. Re: [BROWN] Descendants of John Meredith Brown
    2. Hi Thomas, My name is Dale Dodson. I am descended from John Brown who came to Belfast township with his wife in the 1760s. One of his sons was Meredith Brown. Both John Brown and his son, Meredith, fought against the British in the Rev. War. Sometime after the war the family migrated to Elbert County, Ga. Franklin is adjacent to Elbert and may have been part of it (I am not looking at my research right now, but, rather, going from memory). Meredith married John(?) Glover's daughter. Later they moved to extreme north Henry County (I'm pretty sure Meredith moved to Henry Co., I know the son did. They all lived down close to where the Atlanta-Hartsfiel Airport is today.) as did their son, John Brown. Both Meredith and his son ,John, fought against the British in the War of 1812. The second John died while in his late 30s, I think. He left his widow, a Stovall (if memory serves), with a large brood. Three of their daughters married three of Daniel Dodson's sons. One daughter, Amy, married Stephen Dodson. Amy was 14, as I recall. Both Meredith and John Brown are buried at the Elam Primative Baptist Church Cemetery down in Forest Park. I was under the impression that John Brown, the immigrant, had another son, Peter. I read somewhere that he served in the Rev. as a spy against the British. I was also under the impression that he moved south, possibly to south DeKalb. I thought he was connected to Brown's Mill down there, but I could be wrong since he wasn't a primary object of my research. I am particularly interested in anything you know about John the immigrants origins. I assumed he was from N. Ireland because of where he settled. I think his wife's name was Martha. But I don't have her surname. If any of this interests you, write back at daledodson@bellsouth.net and I'll dig out my notebooks and doublecheck all the above and flesh out the details. Dale

    3. The Gabriel Brown I have did live at Brown's creek. It is believed that he married Mary Keen 10 Feb. 1730in St. George's Parrish, Baltimore Co, Maryland. It appears that they had a son also named Jacob. I believe that we are talking about the same family. I am looking for information on a William BROWN born perhaps between 1790-1780. He may not have been born in SC but may have been in the Spartenburg Co area from 1810 to 1846, 1847 or 1848 when he may have died. He also may have spent some time in GA in 1812, 1820 and 1821. He may have won some land in the GA Land Lottery in Cherokee Co GA. I am sorry that I can't be more definite. I am trying to dismantel a very stubborn long standing brick wall. If anyone has run into a William BROWN that may have been in these places or if you are working on BROWNs of that area of SC or GA please share your information with me. > > Thank you. > Pat H. ? > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to BROWN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message _________________________________________________________________ Rediscover Hotmail?: Now available on your iPhone or BlackBerry http://windowslive.com/RediscoverHotmail?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_HM_Rediscover_Mobile2_042009 ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to BROWN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------ To contact the BROWN list administrator, send an email to BROWN-admin@rootsweb.com. 2. Wayne: I am interested in learning more about a Gabriel BROWN of Union Co SC. Jacob and Gabriel BROWN, William LOVE and others settled along Brown's Creek, near the Broad River between 1750 and 1775. Some may have settled after the Revolution They seemed to be Scotch-Irish Presbyterians but other denominations used the Brown Creek Church.  Does this connect in any way with the Gabriel and Jacob BROWN that you mentioned? I have no idea if they relate to my family or not but would like to check them out. Thank you. 3. Hi Ed One thing I do know is that your George Laverty and Elizabeth Brown were Protestants. No Catholic Irishman or Scotsman would have named their son William! I would be very surprised if he was a Catholic. The name George also indicates a Protestant background. I am told that the I.R.A. blew up the BMD's records in Dublin in 1921 and that is why it is so difficult to trace Irish ancestors. I know because I have Irish ancestors as well as Scots. On the Scots side I'm back to 1510 but can get no further back than 1800 on my Irish side. The Scots on my side where all Presbyterians and the Irish were Catholics. When my grandfather married an Irish Catholic the children had to be brought up as Catholics. I am certain this has happened in a lot of families. What is interesting is the name of George and Elizabeth's second son, Isaac born in 1817. Possibly this was the name of Elizabeth's father. There is an Isaac Brown who married a Mary Smyth at Banbridge, Co. Down 13/4/1788. As you know Co. Down is next door to Co. Armagh and there is even another village called Banbridge in Co.Armagh. Possibly these were Elizabeth's parents. Another possibility for Elizabeth's parents considering that the first daughter was named Jane is an Isaac Brown born abt. 1740 in Crosscanonby, Cumberland, England. Cumberland is on the Scottish border just across the Irish Sea. He married a Jane Smithson 12/11/1771. There was a lot of lowland Scots and northern English people who went to settle in Northern Ireland at this time. One of my wife's ancestors among them. Maybe you should consider checking those two out. Laverty is a pretty rare name in Ireland unless it's a corruption of Lafferty. ATB Ken Brown OZ
