Nancy you might try the list for the KC Missouri area - the Topeka area (if different than KC - and also Pittsburgh area. Sometimes people in those areas have access to local resources that are valuable. I have had very good luck with certain counties in some regions - places I could never travel. Those people will know for instance if a state's death index is available on line. Have you looked at the family trees on Ancestry - sometimes you can find other people researching the family. Hello all, This is my first post to this list, and I have some wonderful information as follows: There is an 1653 Family Bible for sale on eBay. It once belonged to JOHN CLAYTON & ALICE MYRES, and was passed down through their daughter LEAH CLAYTON, who married ABRAHAM BROWN, and then to their daughter ALICE BROWN. From there I'm not sure how it got to a lady in California who passed on the her daughter, who is the one who has it listed on eBay. It contains a bunch of significant genealogical information (actual dates!). They are asking a lot of $$$ for it however, but you can see it and examine the photos of the genealogical info in it. I descend from John & Alice (Myres) Clayton too, but the price is far beyond me. It's at: http://cgi.ebay.com/1653-THE-HOLY-BIBLE-Printed-for-Giles-Calvert_W0QQitemZ110414772542QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAntiquarian_Collectible?hash=item19b53bb93e Cheers, Dale Updike Saskatchewan, Canada

Hello Browns: Many BROWNs at this site. Try yukongenealogy.com. Barbara _________________________________________________ "Second star to the right . . . straight on 'til morning." -- J.M. Barrie
I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Freddie BROWN which was taken at the Bushby & Hart Studio in Lynn, Massachusetts. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Freddie just an infant at the time. In addition to his name, someone has written "What Freddie BROWN, certainly not Frederic Nelson BROWN" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to locate information on a possible match: Fred Hamon BROWN b. 7 Nov 1887 in Lynnfield, MA to parents Thomas E. BROWN and Emina Jane SOUTHWORTH. Fred died on 13 Dec 1891. I'm hoping to locate someone from this BROWN Family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of his family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
Looking for researchers of Thomas Brown - Rensselerville, NY (Albany County) There was a Thomas Brown who arrived relatively early in Rensselaerville, NY Albany County - here are two excerpts which I believe are likely relating to him: 1st - from Bi-centennial History of Albany By George Rogers Howell, Jonathan Tenney CHAPTER III Commencing in the year 1787 to which year this chapter will be confined we shall give the name and residence in that year of each settler in the southwest portion of Rensselaerville for in that year neither of the villages of Preston Hollow or Potter's Hollow existed and Cooksburgh sprang up at a comparatively late date. Beginning at the west line of the town on lot No 145 upon the Catskill Creek and Valley the first residence was that of Peter Nouck on lot No 102 being the farm afterward known as the Tignor and farms Mr Nouck's house was then the western terminus of the road leading to Dewitt's grist mill In 1787 there were but three main roads with branches in this town one leading from Nouck's along the Catskill Creek to Dewitt's mill now Oak Hill and thence to Leeds another then called the new road from Freehold to Schoharie which from Oak Hill ran north through this town by the Big Lake The other was called the old road running farther east of the new road and intersecting the latter on lot No 186 where in 1787 stood the residences of Thomas Brown Adam Coons and Niel McFalls 2nd - A history of Ontario County, New York and its people By Charles F. I'm happy to announce that the Brown/Browne/Braun DNA Study is now raising funds from its membership to subsidize yDNA testing among Scottish men. Specifically, we plan to take advantage of the July "Gathering of Clans" in Edinburgh to offer free 12-marker tests for Brown-surnamed men who were born and now live in Scotland or Ulster. We anticipate having the money to fund about a dozen such free tests. Then if matches are found, it would be up to the participants and/or their expatriate "DNA cousins" to fund upgrades. If you'd like more information please email directly, off-list, to W5DRP@aol.com. Alexander Brown-born 24 Dec 1803 Chatham Co, NC-twin of Andrew Brown Jr. They were sons of Andrew Brown, Sr -- possibly about 1760-1819, believed born in Scotland, died in Chatham Co, NC. He married Mary McLaughlin, probably in Chatham County. It's believed Alexander died "after 1859 while farming near the Red River in Arkansas." That's according to a family story and little else is known about him. He may have lived for a time in northern Mississippi, in Marshall, Tippah or Pontotoc County. No info on a wife. Alexander may have been the father of Alexander Brown--no "junior" listed --about 1825-about 1874. He is believed born in Chatham Co, NC and died in Lincoln Co, Ark...married Mary Ann Chamberlain in 1852 in Pontotoc Co, MS.
Hello people, I found this neat-o resource yesterday. It is a list of all the extracted IGI vital records of Ohio by county! (Extracted = taken from original sources by LDS Church volunteers) http://opengen.net/usa/states/ohio/vital-record-batch-numbers You will have to put in the region (North America) and the country (USA) and then Ohio when the search window comes up +++ your family name, of course... Try it out! Kathie -- M. Kathleen Felsted mkfelsted@gmail.com

It is not very useful, since as a test, I searched for 21 people for whom I have birth records, and none of them were in the file.
Hi I think Altduff is near Londonderry not Colrain but I could be wrong. I have been down this route before as my wife is from Northern Ireland and unlike Scotland I don't think that there is Irish Wills on line. That said, you can find some basic information on some wills at PRONI the Public Registry Office of Northern Ireland. http://www.proni.gov.uk/ Good Luck Ken Brown Oz
This e-mail was sent to me by Mary at balch@mchsi.com. Her e-mail bounced back from the list. This is what she said. I am a Scottish Brown who lives in the US. My Browns came from kintyre Argyll. In the 1800s or so I have 2 great uncles who went to Ohio in the US, I also have some who supposedly went to Australia, I do not have the info on who they were, just family lore. I will be in Scotland in the next month or so and will try and find out some more as my sister has some papers that were left after my parents died, if anything relevant is discovered I will post that info.
Any advice on where to search records on line to get a WILL co py as described in an old Ulster book? REF: MARY widow of JOHN BROWN of Coleraine and Patrick Jordan. The Plaintiffs claimed QUOTE 'that Shane Roe O'Mullan had bought the townland of Altduff from John Brown, and had made a will date 6th MAY 1682, dividing ALTDUFF equally between his five children. Pamela Brown Courtney sister of Charles Keith Brown and descendent of Valentine Brown, Jr 1805 who married Mary Ross. Our DNA leads us back to McKain (O'Kane). wondered how I could find the descendents of this Irish-Scot John Brown and who they were blood related to the American Browns. Hello Brown Families! My name is Michele and I live in Ohio. I have a hobby of collecting vintage photos and "papers" of all sorts and I have come across one two names written on the backs of Browns. Karen Brown’s photo back reads “Karen Brown R#4 Owosso (Michigan and when you read further down you’ll find out how I know this) 8 years, 1946 McCall School, 3rd Grade. Jackie Brown’s photo back reads “Jackie Brown R#4, Owosso, 13 years, 1946, 8th Grade” Part of the name “JACKIE” has been cut off but I’m assuming it is Jackie. Also the number 1 in her age of 13 is cut off. I do not have any other information about this photo other than where I got it from and that was Portland Oregon. It came in a "lot" of photos that may or may not be "related" to them. There are several other photos with the first names only and I will list those for you: Ruth, David, Robert (1945), Patsy and Rita K. "At Green Lake (no year, but same handwriting identifying them as Ruth, David and Robert above), Starr (4) and Jana (5 1/2 mo.) (Sept., 1963), Robert (this looks to be the same Robert that I mentioned with Ruth and David. The handwriting identifying him is the same. Jim, Patsy and Robert again (all children and same handwriting); Diane, 12, Bruce, 10, Trudy, 7, Ricky Lee, 3 1/2, Kimble Marie, 1 year & 3 mo., Tamara Lynn, 3 mo., for Xmas 1956 (not the same handwriting as above); David, Francis, Pat (same handwriting as the Robert photos); Rodolfo, Alfonso, Ano; Patsy (again, same handwriting but different age). I did see other photos that looked like they could be related to these girls but they have names that are cut off but have the same handwriting and identifying marks. I also came across some photos in the same lot that have first and last names and some dates. Those are: Mrs. Smelser, teacher at Mac Call School 1944, Jean, Dan, Kathy, Peggy, Danny, Liz and Mary Kemper or Kemfer (A Christmas Photo Card, B&W 1956); Maralyn O'Bryant 1950; Zona Zeliske? 7-5-1950; Carol Lee Syltz? 1946 7-8th Owosso, Grade at McCall (Spelled without the "A" as in the teachers photo), Loretta Beyer Route 4, Owosso, Michigan (SO I am assuming that the previous photo that said "Owosso" was also Owosso Michigan, so at least now we know some of these photos came from Michigan.) Audrey Hall (Freshman 1948); Suzanne Lamb 6 years old March 1964; Barbara Conard, 1944, 8th; Carl Lee Shonzer?1944, 5th grade; Bob Craig (freshman); Billy Handy (no other info on him). The reason I listed all the others out was in case YOU reading this are Jackie or Karen Brown or you knew or know Jackie or Karen Brown and those other names may ring a bell for you. So that's all the information I have. I hope someone will recognize it. I think I mentioned that all the photos are B&W. If you have any info or think you might be related please contact me at frozenglue@yahoo.com as I will be unsubscribing from this list upon posting this message.
