    1. [BROWN] Boston roots
    2. Glen Foster
    3. Hello, I am looking for a Charles Brown (e) born in Boston, 1830. Not much is known about him. He sailed to Australia aboard the Wide Awake, departing New York, 1854, as a 20 year old crew member. Arrived in Sydney, Australia, Dec 20 1854. >From his son's birth certificate, Charles Alexander Brown. b 1860, I get the following: Age 30, born Boston, USA; married Barbara Speedie, Sydney 1855. (These records are not indexed). They had 4 children, Leonard Lemeral (1856), Charles Alexander (1860) Charlotte Isobella (1858), and an unnamed infant dieing at 2 weeks. I have tried the IGI index but to no avail, any ideas on where to head for some break through information. Cheers Glen

    3. Kathie, You are very kind to respond. The reason I didn't give his first name is because that's what we're trying to find out. I have scoured these Family Tree Maker CDs on which one can sort them by female or by male, but did not come up with a match. Marriage Index: IL, IN, KY, OH, TN, 1720 - 1926 CD#2 Marriage Index: Ohio 1789 0 1850 CD#400 This Rachel's 2nd husband was Godfrey Augustus Speck in 1819 in Belmont County, but subsequently lived at the SPECK home in Tuscarawas County. Any four of those counties listed were familiar territory to both of them. It is the same with the surnames listed with Rachel's name. She was first a Pickering, The three names beginning with H were common spellings (mis-spellings) of that name (her first marriage). This "Rachel Brown" is thought to be the second wife of G. A. Speck (his first wife was Sarah Townsend). Sarah died in 1815. Godfrey, Sarah and Rachel Brown were buried near each other in what we call the Boone Sears Cemetery in Freeport Township, Harrison County, Ohio. Our old 1900 family history tells that this Rachel Brown was buried by my fourth great Grandmother, Sarah, and we think she is Godfrey's second wife. The old history says Rachel Brown "lies south from Grandmother's side." We have spent a few years looking for Mr. Brown, in all the 'normal' ways to find him, so now, we're more or less depending on personal family genealogy files. Thanks for responding, Kathie. This Reuben BROWN was the son of William BROWN and Elizabeth HORNBECK and married Elizabeth ARTMAN circa 1824 in Grayson County, Kentucky. While there, we did several grave stone rubbings in a local cemetery. Two rubbings were of children of Jonathon and Sara C. Brown. One rubbing reads "Milton Brown d 12/24/1864 at age 18 yrs 5 mos and 16 days. Son of Johathon and Sara C. Brown. Our soldier boy has gone where war is no more." The other Brown rubbing reads "Ida May, adopted daughter of Jona. and Sara C. Brown. Died Jan 30, 1874 at age 6 yrs 1 mo 11 days. One less to love on earth, one more to meet in heaven" A third rubbing was for Capt. Henry Farrington. This rubbing reads "Capt. Henry Farrington died Aug 4, 1825 in the 76 year of his age. Who in dust he sleeps awhile beneath the barren clods. Long we hope he lives and smiles to see his savior god. 1. [BROWN] William Browne to Virginia 1723
    2. William Reed
    3. This site has a William Browne being imported to Virginia in 1723 by Mr. Wade. Perhaps William Browne was the one being referred to as William Brown arriving pre 1726 from Bently, England in the 1770 Virginia Gazette advertisement. A check might be made for his fellow passengers being born in Bently http://wgscroggins.kueber.us/Wade3_John_Utley.pdf Bill
