My Matches were Justin Rock - Aaron Andrew Rock & James Martin Rock. I wrote them and nothing; Maybe we were Rocks but that could be back 100 years so I am told; for 3 Gen; we were all Bryant's grandpa took the name of his foster parents; I started this search in 1969 and my uncles and dad were all still living but very closed mouth. Oh and none of the above Rock clans are related and all from different countries; Scott- Ireland and Australia-like I said my Browns so far as I can find are from PA. Merry Christmas everyone. I have always thought we were Scottish as the gggrandmother said we were a little of Scotch and Irish. John Ebenzer Brown does not sound Irish. Ebenezer can be either Scotish or English. Sorry to hear you are in the same boat too. Well that thought has crossed my mind too. Another thought is that our surname was not Brown. My ggrandfather oldest son of John Ebenzer Brown told my grandfather that our surname was really Flanagan and we are from Dublin Ireland. So I have also ticked the name Flanagan as well as Brown plus asked for to have any name that matches with the DNA of my brother. My husband's line went from Tn (b 1859-1861) to Al (on 1900 census) then to TX in 1917. His parents were from NC. Some in the family think Scottish, others English. Ken, In the 1920 census for Niagara, NY there is a Andrew Brown b. 1838 in Scotland living with a Frank A. Brown. Andrew Brown stated that he was married and immigrated to US in 1853. However, there was no wife listed. When a census taker came, he asked for the people in the household that day. If wife was gone to visit relatives, she would not be named. Plus JohnEbenezer Brown born Nov 1822 Have used it for years. I would not be where I am today without it either. An example flew to Toronto to visit my brother spent the day at the archives with him and hardly got a thing. Upgraded to a newer version of FTM put in the same data could not believe what my FTM found in Ancestry for me. So many documents that lead to other ancestors. It is well worth the yearly fee and I have just received the FTM 2010 which is great. Very cost effective. My only brick wall is my gggrandfather John Ebenezer Brown born Nov 1822 also in census showing as John C. Brown and John E Brown. The first name is the real one as I found the decendant with his John's family bible and I took pictures of the pages. It dates back to 1855 and then I made my own bible from the pages. My ggrandfather said he was from Dublin Ireland and have found no proof of that but census says NY and sometimes Vermont. I had my brother do the Brown DNA when it first came out. No matches yet .....still waiting. Hi I'll put my two bobs worth in. Years ago I uploaded my family file to Family Tree Maker. Later my file appeared on Ancestry. I had no problem with that because then we were able to access other peoples files who had uploaded to Ancestry. Now Ancestry charges for access to information they acquired for free. That is a rip off in anyone's book. It is good to see that in the U.K. there are people like FreeCen who are giving information out for free on census and BMD. That is the way it should be. After all it is OUR records. I have no argument with Ancestry charging for census and BMD and other information they have paid for BUT not for family tree information compiled (at their own expense) by the public. It is good to see that people like Facebook are getting into this area at no charge. End of rant. Meanwhile I am still looking for descendants and any information on a Andrew McGill Brown. He was born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland about 1838. He married a Margaret Chalmers born Kilmarnock 1st January 1831. She died in Kilmarnock 1896. In between this time though the couple had lived in the United States as a son Andrew was born in Lewiston, Niagara, NY in 1860 and a daughter Mary Isabella Brown in NY in 1863. Mary stayed in Scotland (and I have tracked down her descendants) but it's believed Andrew jnr went back to the US. After the death of Margaret Chalmers in 1896 her husband Andrew McGill Brown also returned to the U.S. we believe to join his son Andrew jnr. It is pretty certain that Andrew jnr had descendants as there is a IGI reference to his birth on the Mormon website from a temple in California. It would be great if anybody could help with this brickwall. Thanks and Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all. Ken Brown Gold Coast Australia.
Carl: Took a look at your FTM page. No way that young couple have been married for 30yrs. LOL Congrats and may you both have many, many, more. Keith W Brown Indianapolis IN http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/r/o/Keith-W-Brown
I totally agree with what Jim Brown has said about Ancestry, I know I would not be anywhere close to where I am in my research nor would I be able to help others if I didn't have it. I have been a member since that time and have found it very beneficial. I allow my data to be uploaded and utilized by anyone wishing to do so. The greatest majority of my data is verified thanks to the newer versions of Ancestry 2009 and 10. I would not be without the program personally. Seems like many of you are complaining for no good or rational reason. If you wish to do all the traveling from one courthouse to the other, that is your priviledge and more power to you. Basically, if you don't like Ancestry.com, don't subscribe. No one is forcing you to do so! But quit crying like babies that they charge for membership. They spend alot of money obtaining your online data, sending people to the State capitals and to Washington, DC to all the archives. Do you have that kind of time? May God Bless you and yours! But your posting matter doesn't co-incide with the SUBJECT. You should CHANGE THE SUBJECT LINE in your reply to aid all of us who filter by suject, also it's just common courtesy to stay on-topic. ----- Original Message ----- From: "J Brown" <brown014@umn.edu> To: "Mike" <robby@americanhandcrafted.com> Sent: Thursday, December 17, 2009 7:30 PM Subject: Re: [BROWN] Uploads (?) to ancestry > HEY!
