Hello, I am new to the "Brown" list - can anyone help me in trying to find my grandfather's cousin who emigrated to Canada between 1890 and 1915. His name was Levander Brown (date of birth 4 January 1878 - father - Levander Brown Snr of Rob Ridding, Ashover, Derbyshire, England). The two address I have from correspondence dated 1 December 1935 to my grandfather ( Thomas Shaw) is 5019 Louis Veuillot, Montreal and also correspondence to another relative (Tom Ludlam of Tansley) dated 28th June 1955 22 Menzies, Victoria, B.C. I believe Levander Jnr had possibly two sons, one called Melvin who had a daughter born in June 1955. I would be most grateful for any information that may lead to contact with any living relatives in Canada. Hazel Ramage Derbyshire, England

In regard to sharing or not sharing information, surely there is also the possibility that some people either don't know exactly what information you want or don't have any information they think you'd be interested in. I know that I've received information from several people to whom I simply had nothing to offer--they already had all the information I had, plus lots more. I just had to respond to John's email to the list and to Wanda. I have to definitely agree with John that we run into jerks and self centered people on a daily basis in all walks of life. But try to keep an open mind and remember all those people who are so helpful in our genealogy research. I belong to a great number of lists and have been helped by so many. In fact yesterday a woman replied to my request for help in locating my grandfather's grave in Florida. I had his dates of birth and death and a general idea of where he was buried. Someone sent me a list of my family buried in a cemetery in Florida...it included my grandfather and several other members of my family. It was almost an anonymous reply as all the lady did was state the information and the source. So, keep your chin up there are lots of "Genealogy Angels" out there. Good luck to all in their research. Edie Brand Katy, Texas

Wanda, I would love to help you, but unfortunately my brick wall is my Brown ancestors. Leonard Sanford Brown from KY. If you need anything from Washington Co. IN I can help. Marcia
Hi Wanda; You wrote in a open note addressed to the list Owner; <<Why is this person on the list if they are not willing to share info.>> I'm not the list owner (just a member) but I would like to answer this Question. This is one of the better lists I know of and have been help many time by it's members. I however, like you, have come a crossed a jerk or two who want a lot of info from others but will not share what they have. These jerks are not only on this list but are in all areas of life. I have work hours trying to help people only to have them say when I asked a simple question, "You can read that in my book when it's finished" or "Sorry I really don't have time to help you" or "I don't give out information on my family tree" Please don't let a few bad apples sour you on this list or the great field of Genealogy. Happy Hunting. John
Rachel Brown Tate was the wife of Joseph B. Tate who was born about 1793/94 in N.C. --possibly Orange Co., They married on April 22, 1813 in Davidson Co., Tenn. Rachel Brown was born in 1799 in N.C. They had Zachariah Tate who was born in 1822 in Tenn. and he married a Martha Timmons in Ark. Brown is such a common name and I have no idea who Rachel's parents or siblings could be. By any chance does Rachel Brown married to a Tate sound familiar to anyone? It is so hard to find women in genealogy. Jane Little McEndree janemc@airmail.net

There is a Hiram Brown buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Millville, Cumberland County, NJ. His headstone reads Hiram Brown born Sept 24, 1795; died Jan 8, 1884; son of Edgar of (could not make out town); Antrim County, Ireland. I made this note hoping he might be related to my Thomas Brown 1818-1859 buried in same cemetery. Thomas is the son of Joseph Brown and Margaret Stewart Dailey Brown.

For Carlene Callahan: I also have a Hiram Brown, but from your info., I know it's not the same. I don't know where he's from, or who his parents or wife were. The only thing I know of on my Hiram is that he is the father of my great-grandma: Alma Minnie (Minnie Alma). He also had a daughter named Ethel "Callie" who was known as Ethel Carlson as of 1947 & was from Tampa, FL. Ethel had a son named Robert. I was told that there were more children, but no one seems to remember any names. My Browns seemed to have wandered all over the place. IL, IN, MI, WA, CA, FL, & even Canada. I do know that this Brown family was of American Indian heritage, I believe to be Blackfeet. Sound familiar????-PLEASE reply Debbi in IL abney6@home.com
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME? W. J. K. (Kirby) Brown, b. l829, SC, son of William Brown and Arapha (Alpha) Huckaby Brown, on l850 Census of Pickens Co., AL. Kirby married Evelena Hodge, dau. of Bryce and Fanny (Clardy) Hodge in Jan l852, Pickens Co. AL. Kirby and Evelena appear on l860 census of Pickens Co. AL with three sons, James (jim), Neely Belton (N.B.) and David (Dave). Family tradition tells another son, Van was born after the l860 census. Family tradition is that Kirby Brown volunteered and was enrolled in the Confederate Army at Coal Fire, AL. He is said to have died of pneumonia while marching from one encounter to another in Virginia. His commanding officer supposedly left another soldier with him and marched on. Kirby then, according to tradition, died, and the soldier who had been left with him buried him there where he died. I have repeatedly written the Archives of Alabama trying to obtain a military record of Kirby Brown, and they continue to tell me they do not have one. He may have served with the 4th AL Volunteer Mil. as a Pvt. For years I have searched for some proof that he served in the Confederate Army, died while in service in Virginia. Can some of your Civil War buffs or SCV's tell me what I can do to try to establish this family story? Will greatly appreciate any help or suggestions. I don't have personal knowledge of your BROWN family, but your Leonard Sandford BROWN (b. 1837) was at a wonderful age to find his family! Starting in 1850 (when he would have been about 13) the Federal Census Records start to list the complete family by name, age, and state of birth; so he should be listed in a BROWN family household in KY in the 1850 Federal Census which exists. I would go through an Index of Heads of Households of BROWN and SANDFORD families in KY in the 1850 Federal Census and see where they appeared together in the same county. They you will have to search each of the BROWN families to locate him. Start near those counties that are near Clark Co., IN. I did a quick check, and found SANDFORD families indexed in 1850 in Kenton, Boone, Jefferson, Owen, and Henry Counties of KY near the river and across from Clark Co., IN. Keep in mind that he will NOT be indexed in the 1850 Federal Census as only the Heads of Households are indexed! Good hunting.
