My problem is that's all I know. My great grandfather Eslie Alexander Brown was born in IL but moved to MO and that's all I know. I keep watching the list for his name because it is so unusual. So I am one of the lurkers. I have more information on him in MO, I post mostly on the Taney Co. MO list. I have no Idea were to start looking for him in IL. I know of no family for him (brothers and sisters). If any of you IL Brown researchers run across this most unusual name please post it for me. I would be most greatful. Marge Brown Dallas, TX
My brickwall BROWN is Thomas BROWN b: 1774 in Maryland; m: Amy Ann____(BROWN); she also b: 1783 in Maryland. Maybe Thomas was his middle name. I don't know his parents or siblings names. I have lots of information and will be glad to share with anyone who is connected (related to this BROWN). Ken Brown

I found this information in my g-grandmother's Bible! Her father was Thomas Brown, his wife Mary. No dates after their names; they had seven children: 1. John Brown, born Jan 1804, died Apr 10, 1864 2. Eliza Giles Brown, born Sep 13. 1806 3. Ellenor Ann Brown, born Aug 30, 1808 4. Thedwood ?(hard to read) Brown, born Jun 30, 1810 5. Jack Alexandria Brown, born Dec 27, 1812 6. Martha Christin Brown, born June 6, 1915 7. Sophronia Edmond Brown, born Feb 9, 1818, died June 12, 1902 in Madison County, AL. Sophronia was my g-grandmother; she married Alexander G. Hall, Dec 16, 1844. I was told by older family members that the Brown's came from Virginia. I don't know the route they took or if all the family came to Alabama. Is there anyone that might have one of my g-grandmother's siblings in their family? Peter Henry Brown born born ca 1822 in North or South Carolina (depending on census). His father may have been named James, his mother or grandmother was a Spearman. Family tradition says he left home at an early age. His father died and his mother remarried. P.H. had known brothers Leroy and Madison. The family lost track of Leroy after the Civil War, Matt worked in Atlanta, Ga. P.H. and his wife Lydia Jones, whom he married in 1841 in Coweta Co. Ga, lived in Ala. near Selma ca 1848, Coweta Co. Ga. 1850, Cherokee Co. Ala. 1860, Sequatchie Co. Tn by 1870. They lived in Walker Co. Ga. when the war broke out. Peter served in Confederate Army as a hospital steward, nursing and buying supplies etc. for the hospital. After the war he was called "Dr. Brown" by many people. Peter and Lydia's children were: Elizabeth E. James Madison Nancy Ann Sarah Jane (mine) Gabriel Spearman Willis Warner Russell Peter Mary Solomon More
I found my Sarah Brown first in the Baywood Book (Grayson Co., VA). Here is what it says: Isaac Isaiah Fields, such information as is available indicates he was born in North Carolina, most likely Randolph Co. where six other Fields families lived. He could have been and probably was a son of one of them. Information on families as far back as the civil war and before is scarce. Many records were destroyed during the civil war. Not nearly as many records were kept in the early years. Census reports then only showed the name of the head of the household and did not include the name of the wife or children. Information indicates Isaiah Fields was born in 1799 or 1800. Also it is indicated that he was married to Sarah Broun or Brown about 1832 or 1833 and moved to Virginia in 1842. He first located near where the city of Galax now is. etc ---. They had 8 children: John Branson (born 1834-died 3-11-1909), Isaac (was killed in a hunting accident and was never married-born 1841-died 10-18-1868), Amanda (born 1844-died - she never married), Henry W. George (William) born 4-22-1848-died 4-1-1923, Adeline, Fidella (Della), and Millison. The Grayson Co., Va. marriage records has Isaiah Fields b 1809 m Sarah Brown b 1809, in 1832. I have Isaiah Fields father as Benjamin Fields of Guilford Co., NC as it was the only available one of the right age. No real proof. Got any proof anyone? I have nothing for Sarah Brown, Braun. I added Brewer because of the question about the brown spelling. If the handwriting was obscure Brewer has about the same number of humps or points if the writing is not clear. I have not seen the questionable writing myself. I need parents for Sarah. We have discarded the possibility of her being the daughter of Alexander Brown as his Sarah married Elijah Hambleton, had 7 children and is buried with her family. A disappointment as the time and place was right.

Hi I dont have much information on my Browns yet. I have located a few on Census records, but couldnt verify if they belonged to me or not. Im in search of Harvey Lee Brown from Alabama who managed to make his was to TX and marry Susie Jones of Texas. They had a son named Tom Lee Brown on November 1, 1890 in Parker, TX or Parker County TX. Tom Lee Brown was my grandfather and married Minnie Jewell BREADY Hardin. Tom Lee was her second husband and they had 3 children, Wanda Lee, Harvey Lee, and Peggy Sue. They lived in Braggadocia, Missouri and worked as a farmer. He died on August 21, 1949 in Hayti, Missouri. There was a note on the funeral records that a J.D. Brown, supposedly his brother, paid for the funeral. If anyone recognizes this line of Browns, please contact me at: revncaer@brightok.net Thanks :) Angie
