Looking for information on Jefferson Brown born 1829 in OH. Moved to MO in 1847. Married Martha or Maggie Cobb (she was a widow with 3 children William Cobb, Lucy -married name Huston,Sadie-married nameCarper. Jefferson and Martha were married in 1872 somewhere around Alexandria. My grandfather, Abel Calvin Brown, was born in Clark county MO in 1874. Jefferson had at least one sister, in his obituary dated February1907 she was listed as Mrs. H. A. Boatman. I believe her name was Kate. His mothers name is thought to be Charlott. I have know clue as to his father's name and have come to the conclusion maybe there really are UFO's and they just dropped Jefferson off, I can't seem to find any information on him at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Alice
Johnny Bob Beaird, Have you looked at 1860 Carroll County, IL census page 1006 York township at ancestry.com there is a listing for Jehu Brown. It might give you a clue if you haven't seen it. The only other info I have on this family is what was sent to me last year and almost word for word what you sent yesterday and today. I am sorry but I will keep the info in mind. I do know that there was a James Brown in Macoupin Co., IL on the 1840 census 1 male (20-30) and 1 female (20-30). Maybe a connection to your Brown. Carol Brown Hoskins Buffalo, WY hoskins@trib.com

KEN, I will keep a look out but I am sorry to say I have limited my IL research to just the Southern half of IL. I have purposely stayed away from Cook Co., IL. It is too massive for me at this time. However, I realize I just might have to break down and do just that. Several of James & Kizziah's 7 sons that married listed on 1900 census that their parents were from MO. Where that idea came from I can not figure out. But it tells me that there just might be some kind of connection to a MO family of Browns. My Browns were in Saline Co., AR by 1846 and on the Census there in 1850, then on to CA in 1852. Where they remained. So the Browns I am interested in finding, are all the ones that were in IL prior to 1838 when my James got married. He wasn't very helpful in listing his place of birth other than on 2 census reports. 1850 he said (or someone said OH) 1860 he was listed as being born in KY. He was born in 1816, possibly in November. But I will keep a look out for your James Oswald Brown. One never knows where information might show up. Carol Brown Hoskins >Carol, > >If you ever run across a James Oswald BROWN, in or around Chicago, I'd love >to hear about it! >He was born in Scotland 1858, came to Ontario Canada, then Chicago from >1886 to 1891, at which point I lose him.
