Good Morning, Is anyone else tracing a Fenton HALL who married Hannah BROWN, late 1700s in VA? Family then moved to SC. I am looking for any connection between this family and my Fenton Mosher BROWN (brother of James) born TN 1807, 1809, respectively. Seems to be a lot of twin births in these families. Could this be a marker of sorts? Hope to hear from <anyone> researching a combination of these names in that area at that time. Dusti (catsmeow@aztec.asu.edu) --
Howdy, Is there any chance that you show a Mary Elizabeth BROWN in those around the MO area? I only have the name of this person whom I estimate to be born approx. 1840. She married my Joseph M. CHANDLER from Clay County, MO and died in Barton Co., MO. So far, nothing other than a name but hopefully a trip to MO before the end of the year will assist me further. I have a Nathaniel who was born abt 1800 in Emanuel County, GA, but he didn't have a son named Joseph and he married Catherine Johnson. That's one Brown line. The other is a James D. Brown who married an Elizabeth, no less. There seem to be a lot of unattached Browns who were born in NC in the late 1700's. My James was born in 1796 in NC. James had a son named James Duncan, so I'm guessing his middle name was Duncan. Elizabeth was probably a second marriage. He married her in Irwin County, GA abt 1840. I think the genetic approach may be our only hope in some of these James Brown lines. I saw on another list that someone sent out a query asking for family characteristics and compiled them as a research aid. We already did some of that with the crooked little finger and webbed toes. I just read, on the Melungeon List, that the crooked pinky is well known among Native Americans. Does anyone know of any documentation? I'm just wandering around in the dark with my James Brown. What do you all think about compiling a list of all our Browns born in NC in the 1790's and comparing it with the 1800 census? I don't have the census handy, but I could find out the number and location of Brown families in NC in 1800. Just an idea... I could compile the information if everyone with information on NC Browns in the 1790's emailed me off list...or am I just imagining this would lead to anything??? When DNA tests get less expensive, I can volunteer either my uncle or my first cousin: both James Browns, of course. <G> Mitzi
If anyone has a wayward Nathaniel Brown born around 1794 who possibly married a Lyland or Leland and had a son named Joseph, Please notify me. It doesnt matter where he originated or where he grew up and died because Im not sure myself. I was given the info below (Up to William) and am beginning to believe that it is incorrect. The reason is the birth of William was TN but everyone else before and after were noted as being from up north. ANY WAYWARD NATHANIEL BROWNS PLEASE COME FORWARD, IF YOU DONT HAVE INFO AFTER YOUR NATHANIEL, I MIGHT BE YOUR CONNECTION. The possibly bogus info I DO have is listed below. Everything after William is accurate. NATHANIEL BROWN b 1794 RI married first, E. LELAND, second Lydia Griffith and had by Leland: JOSEPH BROWN b 1829 PA Joseph married Rachel Ann Wilcox 1850 in Jennings Co, Indiana. They had William Nathaniel b 1854 Tn? Pete, I do not know too much right now. My Job Brown immigrated to the Canada somewhere between 1800 and 1850. He had at least two children, Normon Brown (B:1840) and Emily Brown. I am a descandent of Norman Brown have no other info on Emily except that she married a Ralph Kohler. Norman may have been born in Toronto, Canada or born in England and came over with his father. I have a cousin in Canada, who may know more and who I will contact him about any further info. I'll then pass along what I know. Thanks for the help and I'll be in touch. Cheers! -Troy NorthantsBrowns@aol.com wrote: > Troy > Great to hear from you - you're the first response about Northants. > > The area around Towcester is traditionally the greatest density of BROWNs in > the county. I have been able to trace back to 1860 census in TN, Tipton County and have been able to go no further for several years. Here is my problem family. Sylvester L Brown age 34 b. NC, Elizabeth A age 30 b. TN, Charles L age 3 b. TN, Thomas (W or H) age 2 B. TN, Thomas ( W or H) Jr age 68 b. NC. Sylvester died 1861 and Elizabeth Ann Yarbro Brown remarried to G W Walton in Tipton Cty. My ggrandfather was Charles Leonzo Brown who died in Jones Cty TX. He was married to Winnie Stewart in Tipton Cty and she also died in TX. Thomas Jr was probably Sylvesters father and trying to find a Thomas Sr in NC has been impossible for me. There are many of them. Any of this ring any bells? Ron Kidd
Ok my earliest known Browns was Samuel Brown from SC in 1790's. He had several sons who all moved with him to MO were they started branching out. Wilson who is my GGGGpa was in St. Francois MO until 1830 when hemoved to AR. Wilson had a Bother i beleive William who moved on down to TX. Wilsons son Solomon was in the Civil War but registered in MO instead of AR. Solomon was married to Cathrine Grinder. Solomon died in the Civil War and Catherine died in 1872 in Tomahawk Township, Searcy CO., AR. Solomon and Catherine had one son Samuel who stayed in Searcy Co., until 1900 then finally moved west to KS. Samuel was married several times. First wife was Sarah (Sally) STILLS they had one child together, Thomas who is my Grandfather. Thomas married three times, first wife was Tempie Reeves they had one child James Washington Brown (washy for short). Second wife was Parlee Eoff they lived in ARKansas until 1925 when they moved to OK. My father Lonnie Brown was bron in Poteau, Pittsburg CO., OK in 1926. Well that is it folks.
