    1. [BROWN] Chaddus Brown from Rhode Island and Thomas Brown from Tennessee and Missouri
    2. Brown family searchers; Isn't it fun to look for your Brown family ties. I have two distinct Brown Families. One is the Family line of Chaddus Brown 1600-1663, who lived in Rhode Island after arriving from England. He married Elizabeth Sharparrowe and had several children including Daniel Brown 1638-1710. Daniel Brown married Alice Hearndon and also lived in Rhode Island. One of his children Alice (or Ellis) Brown 1691-? married William Sprague. I have a lot of information on the Sprague Family, but no history to speak of on the Chaddus Brown line. Is there someone who can help me? Brown Family two is my direct Brown family line. Robert Brown 1791-1861 is the first person I have in this line. Would really like a whole lot more information. He was born in one of the Carolinas from Scotch-Irish stock and his father name unknown was in the Revolutionary war, we think. He settled in Blount or Monroe County, Tennessee and married Jane Dennis 1790-1866. They moved to Greenfield Missouri and were buried there. Thomas and Jane had a six children to include William Washington Ritchey, Mary, Nancy Dennis, Sumeril Dennis, Eliza, and John 1832-1916 (my line). John Brown married Albina Minerva Cowan 1840-1931 and had a large family as well. Aley Jan, Albert Lincoln, Sherman Alfre, Lueticia Ann, Robert Donald, Jasper Marion 1870-1962 (my line), and Charles William. They lived in Missouri and then moved to Rice County, Kansas where they are both buried. Jasper Marion was my great grandfather. He married Cora Profit (1875-1954). They had 8 children and moved to Harper County, Kansas and they are buried there. My Grandfather Carl Brown 1901-1985 lived in a number of Kansas towns and settled Harper and is buried there. He married Edna Lucille Wisler 1901, who is the GGGGG Grand Daughter of Chaddus Brown. I'm missing quite a bit of the detail of the family histories on both families. Carl Brown

    1. [BROWN] Josiah Brown B-1798 SC
    2. Looking for your Josiah Brown B-1798 SC: Hope the following will help you. Looking through my file cabinet and discovered that I also have the 1840 census of Tuscaloosa Co AL in the Moore's Bridge Community. Your Josiah is there with all of his Brown siblings. He is on page 196. The break down is: Males: under 5 there is 1, 5-10 there is 1, 10-15 there are 2, male 40-50 there is 1. Females: under 5 there is 1, it shows his wife 30-40. In the 1830 census my Thomas P and Josiah are living side by side on page 314. As I had previously mentioned he is on page 196 in Tuscaloosa in 1840. My John P.S.(son of Thomas P) is B-Tuscaloosa in 1826, so I know they have moved from TN to Tuscaloosa by that time. By the 1850 census my Thomas and his sons and wives have moved to Winston Co MS. By the 1860 census they are in Smith and VanZandt Co TX. I do not have census for Winston other than my Thomas and sons. I am going in for Surgery Wed morn, so if you write back and I do not answer, please write me again. Good Luck Bill So :B- 1798 SC>>>TN>>>AL>>>MS>>>TX.

    3. My Nathaniel was born about 1802 in Tennessee and married Alice (Alcy) Anglin. Do you think that, because Brown is such a common name, any given name is likely to occur frequently? Or do you think there might be some family connection among these southeastern Browns? By the way, there is another, older, Nathaniel Brown in Tennessee in the early 1800s, in Lincoln County. 1. [BROWN] James E. or U. b.1811/12 poss GA or AL
    2. Am going to present my line a little differently than before and see if it rings any bells to anyone.................. Does anyone have a James E. or James U. Brown born 1811 or 1812? Could have been born in GA or AL but since both have been mentioned in various documents they both could just as easily be incorrect. Wasn't going to mention this but since someone did, this BROWN family to this day is "blessed" with several typical Melungeon traits. My father has the ridge at the base of his skull, My son, granddaughter and I have the crooked pinkies (they even have a crooked second toe - The first knuckle bends completely into and under the big toe), most of us have the shovel teeth. Photos of my grandfather (John Martin Brown) are very Indian looking sans the headdress. Most descendants from James E or U have black hair, high cheekbones, olive skin, and although the colors vary from brown, blue and hazel, they all have distinctive, hooded and slightly orientally-slanted eyes, if you can picture that. James E or U Brown's parents may have come from the Carolinas, but I haven't a clue. Older descendants (now deceased) say his mother's name was Elizabeth and and that James E or U was born in GA but one census says he was born GA, another says AL. He married in Marengo Co., AL 1833 to Lucinda Eaves. James E or U's descendants migrated from to AL to Mississippi and then to Arkansas. Some went on to Texas, the family's original destination. The Brown family seemed to travel and move with several of the same families on their trip to the West. Those families include Nolen/Nolan, Eaves, Ingraham, and Ray. Names from the original James E or U that are still handed down to this day are: James, Usrey, Howard, Harvey, Thomas, John, William, Matthew, Martin and George (used in that order with James and Usry being the favorite. Female favorites are Elizabeth, Martha, Jane, Ann/Anna, Faith/Faithy, and Mary.............yeah, I know, those were every Brown's favorites! There are a few unusual names thrown in from time to time that I've never been able to determine an origination ie. Hunter Guston, Usrey (and many variations of that which has been used extensively in every generation), and Sterling/Starling. I'm assuming these were maternal surnames but could possibly have been given by a renegade that just didn't want to follow the normal naming patterns of naming their children after parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Have just found John Luddy Burke's Website on the Burkes and Ansleys which my Brown family is right in the middle of. Haven't been able to find his/their connection to my Browns yet but if any of you are included in that family circle, would you please check your files and see if you can help me find the origin of my elusive James(?) Usrey/Eusrey Brown. If you can help I promise to include you in my will! :) ........And I say James. I'm not even sure it's James but John Burke calls him that and that's good enough for me until I learn differently. Good hunting to you all and LOVE our Roll Call.
