    2. Rita BROWN Werner wrote.... This is a wonderful list. I've been wondering about finding info on my immigrant ancestors. It's very possible that the Edward Browne listed 1634 on the Hopewell to Barbados is one of my ancestors, IF this ship then traveled on to MD as did the Ark and the Dove in 1633. Do you know? Do you have any way of locating the names of English Browne immigrants to Maryland? That's my particular area of interest. Mz Werner Have you tried the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild? http://istg.rootsweb.com The site is home to a very industrious group of people that have transcribed ships lists from all over that arrived to America. The site is easy to follow and very interesting and wonderfully laid out. I found the part of my tree that arrived to America in May of 1867 from Glasgow,Scotland. If you do find a member of your tree you can then send a correspondence and they will highlight your info and also set up e-mail and home page links. Just remember to get permission for any linking to their page from yours. Good luck Keith W Brown http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/b/r/o/Keith-W-Brown

    3. To correct the record, Edward Browne, age 24, was listed with those who took the oath of allegiance and supremacy while embarked on the "Hopewell," Mr. Thomas Wood, Master, enroute from London to Barbados on 17 February 1635, not 1634! A John Bowne (Bownd) was also on the same vessel.[Peter Wilson Coldham, "The Complete (sic) Book of Emigrants 1607-1660" (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1987), pp. 124-125, citing Public Record Office (PRO):E157/20] Barbados in the West Indies was a normal landfall for vessels transiting the Atlantic to North America. There were a great number of sugar plantations there. After Barbados it was easier for sailing ships to return to England by using the Gulf Stream current up the Atlantic coast at least as far as the Carolinas, and even to New England depending on the other trading commodities such as manufactured goods and/or tobacco (Oh, shame!). Edward Browne could have continued on the "Hopewell," or taken a later ship to go on to Maryland as you believe he did. George W. 3. 1. John Jacob (Jake) Brown 1878-1925 2. Henry Brown 1840-1880 3. Gilbert A. Brown 1818-1848 4. John Brown ?-1845 1. Am sure that John Jacob was son of Henry from personal info by descendants who knew JJ. 2. Henry was found dead "under a tree"; had no will. 3. Will of Gilbert names wife Patsy (also listed as Martha in other sources) and "three children" (no given names). His children were Henry, George, and Ann. Apparently Gilbert died of a health problem of which he was aware. He states in the will: "being weak in body but in my perfect senses, knowing that all men must die...." 4. Will of John in Warren Co Will Book 1-3 Volume 1 names wife Elizabeth; sons Gil bert. Carroll, & Andrew J. One statement in the will is that his son Andrew J. is to have the bedstead that his mother had, indicating that he must have had another wife who was mother of at least Gilbert before Elizabeth. He also mentions a son John and his "old mother." Does anyone know where this line might fit into a family group before late 1700s or early 1800s? Cecile Harrell

We know he was in SC according to Goodspeed's Dickson County account. Are you certain we are talking about the same John? 1770 NC?? Well, Martha Patsey GILBERT-BROWN was born in about May, 1769, in Georgia. I would imagine MY John to be born circa 1767 in NC or "possbly" Wales. If the latter was the case, he may have declared a particular state instead of Wales, for fear of being "found out." Many scenarios are developing in my mind. My personal family tradition states that he came from NC, thence to GA, thence to Middle Tennessee circa 1805. He may have been in Elbert County, GA, but was in Franklin County GA 1790 Fed Census, along with Charles and Thomas GILBERT. John Andrew BROWN and Family pulled up stakes as the Georgian farmland began to "play out", according to my grandma, Evalena LUTHER-BROWN and my cousin, Emmett Loye BROWN, who passed away in 1993. He is interred in the BROWN CEMETERY on I-40 and Old Spencer Mill Road. This tradition has been passed along, as time lines also show my LUTHER Line reached DC in 1823, HARRINGTON Family in 1809 (Hickman Co., TN) and BAKER Family from KY to TN in 1867. These are my beginning lines, paternal and maternal. This is more than a serious hobby to me. I am determined to get some substantive answers to this quest, and welcome your help. I want to be careful to broadcast whether a certain tidbit or date or locale is absolutely correct. There are times when I report another's findings....I just want this to be accurate as possible......... Thanks. Can you send YOUR BROWN Line? Mine is Caleb Daniel, Michael David, Orville Matthew, Andrew "Jackson", Andrew Jackson "Jack", John Squire, and John Andrew BROWN. Spouses: (Mine):Donna Lynn McCRAY, Nellie "Dimple" HARRINGTON, Evalena LUTHER, Rebecca Catherine LADD, Margaret "Peggy" LAWS, and Martha "Patsey" GILBERT. John Squire BROWN also was married to "another" Peggy....Margaret "Peggy" LUTHER on 3DEC1848-Dickson Co, TN. Please write me and tell me your thoughts and designs (ideas) whereby we can effectively locate our ancestors. I think you already sent the aforementioned material, but like a Venn diagram, let's pool our resources and achieve eventual victory in our mutual endeavor. Regards, Michael in CA. 3. I am trying to find anything about the parents of Daniel Brown b.1823 in IL d.1854 possibly in IL. Daniel and Minerva Jane Bolles were married 1846 in Hardin County, Ky(or poss. Bowling Green, KY). Daniel and Minerva are in the 1850 census for Montgomery County IL with one son Rubin age 2. Minerva's family is listed on the lines above them. In 1861, Minerva is in Laclede County MO, a widow with three sons. Her family is also in Laclede County at this time . In 1862, Minerva marries Francis Marion Atchley who lives in Laclede County but they go to Jefferson County IL to get married. Why? Is this where Daniel died or had they lived there? Daniel's parents are my dead end.He was my GGG grandfather. Eldon Clark Downey, Los Angeles, CA
