    3. This is a terrific site for anyone who had family in SW Virginia at any time, settlers or homesteaders or some who just passed through. Civil War information, Grayson Co. VA. Court Records, 1860 Floyd Co. VA. Census, and much, much more. Hours can be spent visiting. Well worth looking at, as you never know who you will find. Grayson County borders NC. so two state lookups at one search. Good luck on your searches, Mary Anne ----- Original Message ----- From: "Faded Genes" <faded-genes@wildmail.com> To: <BROWN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 29, 2000 2:32 PM Subject: [BROWN] NEW RIVER NOTES > A search on this site, which covers parts of VA and NC, gave me over > 330 hits on BROWN. > http://www.ls.net/~newriver/nrv.htm > > Carol > > > Don't let another child be hurt by ignorance. 1. [BROWN] a book about Wm. Brown Family of PA, WV, IL on Ebay
    2. Rita Werner
    3. With the list manager's permission, I'm passing along this info. I seem to recall seeing a few posts from people with William Brown ancestors. I just noticed the following book is being offered on Ebay auctions. This is the title and a brief description: "A Genealogical Record of William Brown and Descendants" by W. H. Taylor. Published in Baltimore: Gateway Press, 1978. Revised with a new index. Originally published in 1905. The seller of this book lists many of the Allied families, as well as wives' maiden names. I am NOT the seller and have no connection to the auction, but with such a common name as Wm. Brown I thought others might be interested. I had hoped it would be about my ancestor, but it's not. The seller's initial asking bid is steep, but there's enough info so that someone should definitely be able to figure out if the book is about their William Brown. Good luck. Just trying to help others like myself who have hit brick walls with their Brown's (my direct ancestor is George Brown(e) b. ~1690, England and of Frederick Co., MD in early 1700's). Happy Holidays! Rita

    1. [BROWN] Brown / Browning / Devine
    2. Jeff
    3. I am looking for information on the Francis Brown who mar. Elizabeth " Betsey " Browning in Knox Co., Tn. on Dec. 31, 1818 . I have seen postings that state Elizabeth Browning b. ca. 1797 Va. was the daughter of James Browning and Elizabeth (?) and that she was the sister of Clarissa Browning who mar. Hugh Leeper Brown . I believe that Francis (Frank) and Elizabeth (Browning) Brown are my g.g.g. grandparents but I have no documented proof of this. These are the names given as the parents of Thomas Henry Brown ,b. Sept. 25, 1830 Tn. (my g.g.grandfather) on his Death Certificate , dated Dec.11, 1913 , he died in Jefferson Co., Ks.. Thomas Henry Brown mar. Emily Rebecca Scrivener Oct. 20, 1853 in Platte Co., Mo. , moving to Leavenworth and Atchison Co.s , Ks. shortly after their marriage. I have a document that was written by a Charles Brown , a grandson of Thomas Henry Brown , and is a recollection of his grandfather's life , ( as he remembered it being told to him ) , he mentions some old rolled up papers, that his grandfather kept in an old Boot Box , which mentioned the marriage of Elizabeth Devine to Frank Browning , stating that they were from Ireland and came to Jamestown , Va. . (no dates given) . He goes on to mention that one of their daughters married a Hugh Brown . ( also no dates given ). I can't verify the accuracy of this letter , but I am assuming that Thomas Henry Brown was relating information about his grandparents , Frank Browning and Elizabeth Devine . Any information on tjis Line would be greatly appreciated . Thank you , Jeff McDonald garaiid@alaska.com
