    1. Re: [BROWN] BROWN, Ephraim of Tennessee
    2. In a message dated 01/15/2001 9:01:21 PM Eastern Standard Time, Researchingmykin@aol.com writes: << Is anyone researching Ephraim BROWN, who died in the early 1800's in Williamson County, Tennessee? Who were his children? Any information at all would help. Colleen: I am not researching Ephraim BROWN of Williamson Co TN but here is some information. Since it contains several BROWN names I am sending it to the list. From: Tennessee Tidbits 1778-1914 Vol I compiled by M.H. Fischer BROWN- 9 July 1828 Ephraim BROWN brought suit against Micha BROWN as guardian of Samuel BROWN and Charles BROWN. It was found that Micha did waste and misuse the estate of her wards and James W. GRIER was appointed guardian in her place. (WLL TN, Co Ct. Min, 10/18) BROWN, Charles- Died in 1816. In January 1801 he had made a deed of gift to his sons, Luther and Joshua, for 640 acres. Joshua died in 1803 or 1804 at the age of seven, leaving Luther, William, Elizabeth who married Jesse COX and Rebecca BROWN as his brothers and sisters. In 1815 William died while still a minor, and left Luther, Elizabeth and Rebecca and also Benjamin, Ephraim, Samuel and Charles BROWN as his only brothers and sisters. About ten days after the death of William, his sister Rebecca died, then a minor and unmarried. Luther claims two-thirds of the tract of land, one half by the deed of gift and one-sixth part by the death of his brothers and sisters, Joshua, William and Rebecca. Elizabeth COX is entitled to one-sixth and Benjamin, Ephraim, Samuel and Charles to one-twenty-fourth. Luther asked that a division be made at the April term 1823. (Wll TN, Co P&Q, 2/209) BROWN, William H.- Died before 9 July 1828 when the administrator John RILIE, was in a case. (WLL TN, Co. Ct. Min, C/10/18) There was an Ephraim BROWN who died 21 February 1854 as shown in the indictment of William CRABTREE and Isaac CRABTREE for his murder in Fentress County, TN. Robert BROWN was the prosecutor and William BROWN a witness. The case was tried in Putnam County on a change of venue. (Put TN, Cir. Ct. Min, no#/156-167)

    3. My 2nd great grandparents, Joseph Adam Brown , born 1828 place unknown and Caroline (Gordon) Brown were married in Maryland, and their first 2 children, James H. and Alamanda were born in Maryland. Their next 5 children, Joseph B., Adeline, George W., William H., (George and William H. were twins) and my great grandmother Florentine Victoria (Brown) Sharp, were born in Indiana. In the middle 1870's this family had taken a steamboat from Indiana all the way to Arkansas and they had 3 more children,( Charles E., and Albert ,were twins) and Emma J. These last 3 children were born in Arkansas. I am searching for any descendants of all the above people. I do not know who were the parents of my 2nd g.grandfather Joseph Adam Brown. Caroline (Brown) Gordon's parents were John A. and Margaret (McClain) Gordon of Frederick Co., Maryland. Any help would be appreciated. Faye

    1. [BROWN] Michael McGuire and Rachael Brown, MD?
    2. Rita Werner
    3. Hello, I'm wondering if anyone here knows anything about Michael McGuire who was married to Rachael Brown in MD? Here's the info I have received from two sources (Bob Bavis, who provided the quoted info from Mrs. Rogers, and William Shaffer) : RACHAEL BROWN, daug of GEORGE and Mary STEVENSON BROWNE (the "e" in George's surname was dropped when he named his children) was born 1743 in Baltimore Co., MD, and died May 01, 1818. She married MICHAEL MCGUIRE, JR., son of MICHAEL MCGUIRE, SR. and PATIENCE WELLS, October 03, 1766 in Taneytown, Frederick Co., MD. He was born 1717, and died November 17, 1793 in Alleghany Twp., Huntingdon Co., PA. Notes for RACHAEL BROWN: (Information provided by William L. Shaffer): Rachael Brown, dau. of George Brown and Mary Stevenson was born ca. 1742 and married on Oct. 3, 1766 at Taneytown, MD to Michael McGuire, son of Michael McGuire Sr. and Patience Wells. Michael Jr. was married to Mary Burke in 1739. She died before 1766. Rachael and Capt. Michael McGuire lived for a time in the Taneytown area. In 1788, he purchased about 1200 acres in what is now Cambria Co. PA and was the first white man to establish a residence within the limits of that county. He, along with his family and other Maryland residents, moved to what is now Cambria Co., shortly after he purchased it. This became known as the McGuire Settlement, and later a Catholic Church was built there on land donated by the McGuires. One of the first priests, Father Gallitzin, named it Loretto, after the city in Italy, but the town was not laid out until 1816. >From "The Children of George and Mary (Stevenson) Brown" by Mrs F. C. Rogers: It is by no means certain that it was Rachel Brown who m. Joseph Algier. Will of Joseph Algier (Fred. Co. Wills, Vol. GM#2, f. 37) dated April 16, 1783 and probated June 2, 1783, mentions wife Rachel and two daughters. Catherine, wife of Conrad Ake Margaret, wife of Patrick Griffith. More About RACHAEL BROWN: Burial: St. Michael's Cem., Loretto, Pa. More About MICHAEL MCGUIRE: Burial: Loretto Twp., Cambria Co., PA Children of RACHAEL BROWN and MICHAEL MCGUIRE are: MARY MCGUIRE, b. September 02, 1767, Pipe Creek, Frederick Co., MD; d. December 17, 1835 LUKE MCGUIRE, b. October 02, 1768, MD; d. April 17, 1831, Allegheny Twp., Huntingdon Co., PA. HENRY MCGUIRE, b. February 28, 1770, MD. Capt. RICHARD MCGUIRE, b. December 12, 1771, MD; d. January 13, 1855. PATIENCE MCGUIRE, b. April 22, 1773, MD. RACHAEL MCGUIRE, b. June 11, 1774, MD; m. JAMES WALSHE (or JOHN B. WILLS). RUTH MCGUIRE, b. September 07, 1776, MD, poss. married a Mr. GORMAN, however notes from another say she was never married.. APPOLONIA MCGUIRE, b. February 10, 1779, MD; d. May 24, 1861. MICHAEL JOSEPH MCGUIRE, b. April 08, 1785, MD. Any information on either the McGuire or Brown families would be greatly appreciated. (Corrections welcome as this is not my own information, however, comes from very reliable sources.) Thanks! Rita Werner Illinois

    2. Valerie Upton
    3. My brick wall is Elijah BROWN, born in 1804 NC. Found married in AL in 1830 in Madison Co AL. Because of this I am interested in ANY BROWN's in the 1820's /1830 in Madison AL. OR NC. Brown's that moved to AL in these early yr's. Elijah's wife was from TN so there "might" ahve been a stop there. They had a child already who was suppose to have been born in 1828 in AL so "know they were there from that time period. They moved to Marshell and owned several acres there. In late 1850's they moved to Randolph Co ARK., where Elijah died in 1860 and then the family turns up in Christian twp, Independence co ARK. A daughter Frances does not show up with them and she may hve married but can find no records. If you have a Frances Brown from AL. let me know. She may be mine! A son Nymrod also did not show up in ARK. He was really, a little to young to be on his own, but ? no records that I have been able to find. No death, or war records. Leonadias, a son in in Randolph in 1860 and later in Independence Co. He has 2 marriages, with 2 sons form the first marriage and have not been able to follow his family into modern times, yet, but seems they stayed in Ark untill late 1800's. James L. or J.L. Brown became a Rev of the baptist church, married 2 times and had several children and grandchildren who stayed in ARK for the most part. One daughter married a MR. JAMES and had 2 or 3 sons. she died young. One of his sons became a Dr. and stayed in ARK another daughter became a nurce. One daughter went to Wash. DC and was working in the Gov. some how.??? can't remember what she did. Another son went to Okla, married had several children and he and his wife were teachers. My part of the family lost contact with this part probably some time after the 1930's. My mother rememered a family reunion, when she was an older child. maybe 1920's? I think the reunion was in ARK. BUT I am not sure as I have found some old photos of her in AL. so there may have been Brown's still in AL during that time period. I just ahve no idea who they were. Christopher Columbus was another son and the one that leads to me. He went to TX. after his 2nd marriage. Had 3 children. 1 son form his first and a son and daughter from his 2nd marriage. He and his family were in Nolan co.TX for a while. He had a son James, that knowledge of his famly is not know to us today. He was still in TX in early 1900's. I am hoping for any clue at all!!! My Brown's are up for ADOPTION LOL Val _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
