    1. [BROWN] William Ansell George's heritage
    2. Michael S. Beckley
    3. My great grandfather William Ansell George was born to Isaac George and Mary Funk George around 1869, in Jackson Twp, Vinton County, Ohio. He eventually married a Sarah Brown in 1898, who may have been the daughter of T.J. and Mary A. Brown of Falls Twp, Hocking County, Ohio. Mary Funk was born in 1839, probably in Falls Twp, Hocking County, Ohio. She may have been the child of Joseph Funk and Sarah Miller, who had married in Muskingham County, Ohio, in 1822. Isaac George had been widowed by Catharine Rose George earlier in the 1860's. They had resided in Perry County, Ohio during the 1840 census. They were married in Morgan County, Ohio in 1833. I'm trying to trace the Ansell family connection, assuming it's the maiden name of someone's mother(that is redundant, isn't it?). If something looks familiar, please e-mail me at msb@core.com, thanks, Mike Beckley

Maybe >someone can help me with this.---- The ages listed on the census may or may not be correct. I have one person whose age varies by 10-15 years from 1860-70-80. Also, someone told me that if men married much younger wives, sometimes they "deducted" a few years from their age (which I had never even thought of). Also, the numbers may not be read correctly...such as 3 instead of 8 or 5. I have even found where the sex is not correct. I try to view the original and decide for myself if the age is written clearly enough to be sure-especially if I have taken the information from a book or someone else's work. The census has a lot of information, but not all of it is correct. Don't know if this is of any help but do wish you the best in your research. Lana Floyd Alabama USA searching James S. 1. [BROWN] MINOR C. BROWN
    2. I haven't posted for a while, so am trying once again to find any information on MINOR C. BROWN. Minor is buried in Blackjack Cemetery, Burleson Co., TX. On his tombstone is: M.C. BROWN, BORN Dec. 3, 1864, DIED May 10, 1901, Thy Trials ended, thy rest is won. The 1900 Milam Co., TX census shows that he was born in MS, wife Sarah Roxie Burrough also b. in MS. Child, James Richard b. in TX in 1898. Minor was a farmer, but family lore has it that he was closely related to church activities, possibly as a preacher. Any info will be appreciated. Hazel

    1. [BROWN] William and Rosey Brown - NC>FL>TN>AR
    2. Leland Price
    3. William Brown served in the War of 1812 under Maj Dinkens. He was discharged in October 1818 from Pensacola, Florida. William received Bounty land from his service in the war. His land was issued in Arkansas in the county of Jackson (could have originally Independence or Lawrence county since the county lines changed so often). His discharge papers said that he was 32 years old at the time of discharge. At the Archives this past weekend, I found a deed where in 1825 William Brown had sold land in Independence County, Arkansas to a Patrick Quiqley of St. Louis Missouri. The deed said, "William Brown, late of the Army of the United States and Rosey, his wife" sold this land for $300. Mention also in this deed were John Rogers, James Gaily, and Jesse Parker. Now my delemia... I have been researching my William Brown, who has resided in the State of Arkansas since at least 1822 in the counties of Independence and Jackson. With all my research I have found only one William Brown in this area. There are other Brown's, but in other counties and no other Williams. According to my research (through census dates only), my William Brown is 10 years younger than the William mentioned above who served in the War of 1812. I cannot figure out how to resolve this 10 years age difference. Maybe someone can help me with this. William & Rosey's children were - Cornelius (b. 1818 state unknown), Emily Nancy (b. 1822 Newport, Jackson County, Arkansas), Atlantic (b. 1825 Arkansas), Newton John (b. 1827 Arkansas) and Richard Jasper (b. 1828 Arkanas). Rosey apparently died between 1830 and 1840. In 1840, William was married to (Mrs. Mary Churchman). William and Mary's children were: Mary A. Elizabeth Churchman (b.1838 TN - stepdaughter, deaf), Leodicea Pacific (b.1843 Arkansas), John A. (b.1851 Arkansas), and Sarah S. (b.1856 Arkansas). William died after the 1860 census and before the 1870 census. Any suggestions I can get in finding William and Rosey and also with the difference I have in William's age would be very much appreciated. ----- Original Message ----- From: <BROWN-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <BROWN-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 05, 2001 4:00 AM Subject: BROWN-D Digest V01 #62

Robert Joseph BROWN I would like to know where Robert and Susan raised their children. According to the information I have, Robert died abt 1864. Did Robert die in the Civil War? Susan as far as I can tell did not remarry, she died abt 1900. Where is Susan buried? There are eight children listed for Robert and Susan, surely there are some descendants of those eight children, where are they? I'm not positive but I don't think Robert and Susan stayed in Cobb Co. GA., but I could be wrong. Other then finding them listed in the Cobb Co. GA 1850 Census, I can't find any further information about them, I've pretty much hit a dead end. Would appreciate any help at all, or if you know of some of their descendants that might be able to provide more information, I would sure appreciate it. Thanks, SHEILA

    1. [BROWN] Mysterious Browns
    2. Marietta Sexton
    3. Most of us searching for ancestors prior to 1800s realize that middle names or initials were lacking , and are painfully aware that the same names were recycled ad nauseam. In searching for the Williams', Henrys', James', etc in my Brown line, I was surprised to find two , BARNABY and MORDACAI , that are not common names , and wonder if anyone on the list can identify either of them ? Your answer could be the break I need to penetrate my 30 year old brick wall , since both Alleythear and Henry are known family ancestors. Barnaby Brown m Alleythear Green in Wake Co NC 1787 Barnaby Brown is listed on the 1800 census in Pendleton Dist. SC Can any one confirm that this is one and the same person ? Deed Abstract for Spartanburg Co SC 1804 Henry Brown to Rueben Harrison; sold (1) 48 ac where MORDUCA Brown lives and (2) 40 ac where Henry Brown lives; on E side of Kelsoe's Cr.
