The best way to share DNA data and find matches is for everyone tested to upload to Ysearch.com (for Y-chromosome data) or mitosearch.com (for mtDNA data). These databases are sponsored by FTDNA ,but they accept data from all companies, not just FTDNA. For those tested at FTDNA, the upload can be done easily with a few clicks from your FTDNA member page (do NOT manually enter your data). You can still maintain your anonymity if you wish to do so. > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] > [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Carol Brown Parker > Sent: Sunday, November 19, 2006 9:24 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [BROWN] One other suggestion, why don't we list > our kit # for FTDNA so if someone lists theirline & has a kit > we know whether or not we are relatedbesides the states, name > & website > > I like what Jim has done below for the above reason and it > would help spread > the word to other Brown's. I like what Jim has done below for the above reason and it would help spread the word to other Brown's. Sonya....at least she matches!I haven't heard of any Indian blood in the Brown line but wouldn't rule it out. I know in our French ancestry lines there has been although we can't prove it. More often than not the Indian name was changed to our "English" one when they were married so the Indian doesn't show up. My own family comes from early Canada (1634) and there were very few women here at that time. Makes sense that a few would have married Native. I checked out your line on the Brown DNA project. I guess it doesn't match but so many other things point to a relation. Both were married in Saratoga, Saratoga County New York and around the same time. The naming pattern of children seems right but guess not. Maybe this young lady will have some answers. We do have Brown family in Manitoba but they didn't travel there until a bit later..around 1830 I think. My husband's father, Roy Frederick Brown, had a great deal of anger toward his father's family. He would NOT talk about them at all. Through the years we pieced together a bit of info. Some of it proved to be down right wrong. Some was OK. Most we could find no evidence of! This is what we have left of info about Roy Frederick Brown and James Frederick Brown. First of all James, b 1877 in Missippi or Alabama, went by the name of Fred Brown. He d in an accident in 1908 maybe. He was a linesman with the electric Co and touched the wrong line during a storm. He may have worked for the RR or streetcar line. We can find no death certificate or evidence in Alabama. If he worked for the RR an accident could have been anywhere. He m Hattie Aldridge in 1900. They were borders in Montgomery Alabama. They had 2 children, Roy b December 25, 1901 or 1902 and Inez Jane b1904. Hattie worked in a cotton mill to support her two children. She d at age 40 from TB. After Hatties death Roy became a Navy man. Inez married at avery young age. We don't know her married name. Hope you can help! Nancy Brown
Diane, I am corresponding with a Josey Brown in Manitoba, Canada who says she is related to me through the Brown line. Apparently, we have a matching DNA line, although I have not seen it. I don't know where she is looking. However, her grandfather, William Brown, b. 1874 was supposed to have been born in NY. Where, I don't know. She claims she is part Indian. I don't know whether this is on her mother's side or father's. Will let you know. Her mother died when she was 20 years old and really doesn't know much about her family. I wonder if this could be another link? Sonja

Women do not have a Y-chromosome, so they cannot be tested for Y-chromosome DNA surname projects, which is what these projects are. You would need to find a male relative surnamed BROWN and have him tested on behalf of your line. Does anyone on this list have a BROWN/GRIST connection. Sarah Grist lanning Brown was born Ocdtober 8, 1847 in Georgia. She came to Arkansas ca 1870, son Arthur Lanning was born in Arkansas. Do not know what happened to the father, or exactly when she married GEORGE W. BROWN. She had four children by George W. Brown; Ada Elizabeth, Ida Josephine, John Willis and Colombus Turner Brown, all born in Newton County, Arkansas.George brought Billie, Charley & Martha with him into the marriage. Martha died young. I believe most of this family came to Oklahoma from Arkansas in early 1900's. Sarah Grist Brown died March 17, 1910 in Pittsburg Co., Oklahoma. Elizabeth Bailey
Hazel, I believe i found your "Minor C. Brown" b.1864, in 1870 Gainesville, Hall County, Georgia. He was the ONLY one found in the whole USA born in that time frame. If you would like the census image, i will be glad to send it to you. Just let me know. Don't be shocked because he wasn't born in MS, many of our ancestors didn't know for sure where they were born. Mary, I am not sure of the dates for your grandmother as you have her born 1875 and dying 1814. However, I have some Browns that were in S.C. to Maury Co., Tenn. ca 1810 where Rebecca Brown married Michael Waldrip. They then moved to Wayne Co., Tenn. Sharon, I would appreciate your seeing if there is a Elmira BROWN in your records. I don't know her parents or anything beyond. She shows up in the 1860 census for Pike County, Ill as married to Joseph THOMAS, with three children. She was born in Illinois, 22, June, 1834. The 1880 census shows her father born in Tennessee and her mother born in Kentucky. By 1865 they were in Jo Daviess County, and in 1865 left for California. The 1860 census spelled her first name as Alvira. I have a good record of this family down to the present, but nothing for either her or her husband beyond this.
